摘要： A metal product, such as a steel strip or a mill roll, is cooled by spraying a coolant towards a surface of the product travelling along a given path, by means of cooling apparatus comprising two hollow caissons arranged one inside the other and rigidly connected together to constitute a unit. The unit is located adjacent the product surface and extends across the path of the product surface. Each caisson has a plurality of holes in a wall which is to face the product surface, each hole of the outer caisson being paired with a coaxially aligned hole of the inner caisson. A coolant sprayer is fixed in each pair of holes. Preferably, the sprayers are supplied with air from the inner caisson and water from the outer caisson, the water being atomized by the air.

摘要： At the outlet of the finishing stand of a rolling mill, a cooling apparatus is arranged to surface quench only the outer layer of the flat face of a steel section by a cooling fluid. The cooling conditions are adjusted so that, at the outlet of the cooling zone, the unquenched parts of the section are at a temperature still sufficiently high to temper the quenched face, and so that the austenite is transformed into ferrite and carbides in the unquenched parts of the section.

摘要： A water spray quench process and apparatus for the hardening of steel agricultural discs and like articles with minimum warpage and maximum exposure to the quenching water. A steel article heated in a furnace to a temperature above its austenitizing temperature is moved horizontally into a quenching station, supported on several support pins below the article with a positioning member above the article, and sprayed with water from a series of nozzles both above and below the article to rapidly and effectively quench the article to a minimum temperature. Once the article has been cooled by the quenching water, it is expelled from the quench station.

摘要： An apparatus for cooling hot steel plate and sheet has a plurality of cooling units disposed along the plate or sheet delivery line. Each cooling unit has a top and a bottom roll-and-nozzle assembly and a device for coupling them. The top and bottom assemblies each have a roll to restrain the plate or sheet and a nozzle to spray a coolant thereon. The coupling device has a screwdown mechanism to adjust the space between the top and bottom rolls and a device for adjusting the restraining force working on the plate or sheet being cooled. This cooling apparatus permits rapid cooling of steel plate and sheet without causing distortion thereof, and the apparatus is easy to maintain.

摘要： There is disclosed herein a method for inductively heat-treating large diameter steel pipe. The method comprises the exertion of radial restraint on relatively cold portions of the said pipe, progressively moving the pipe to a position where it is heated and quenched, the radial restraint exerted on the pipe being transmitted to pipe portions being heated and quenched, maintaining the roundness of the pipe during heating and quenching. The method also relates to preheating the weld bead portion of welded line pipe whereby overall uniform inductive heating of the pipe is attained.

摘要： An apparatus for hardening an elongated steel pipe by quenching the pipe with a cooling medium, particularly water, which apparatus comprises an elongated container dimensioned to receive a hot pipe to be hardened, means for supporting the hot pipe in a predetermined position in said container, a cooling medium nozzle, having a tip, for introducing cooling medium into the pipe through said tip, means for moving said nozzle between a retracted position in which the tip thereof is spaced from an end of said pipe to allow removal and insertion of said pipe with respect to said container and an expanded position in which said tip lies within said end of said pipe, inlet means for introducing cooling medium into said container so as to pass into said pipe through said tip of said nozzle located in said end of said pipe and also to pass around the outside surface of said pipe and an isolator means in fluid communication with said nozzle, movable to vary the relative proportion of volumes of cooling liquid entering through said inlet means which passes into said pipe through said nozzle and around said pipe whereby to control the relative rates of cooling of the inside surface of the outside surface of the pipe. The present invention also provides a method of hardening an elongated steel pipe using said apparatus.
