Abstract: Embodiments for virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) scenes updates at VR/AR devices in a network are described. Network traffic for the scene updates is divided into traffic layers such as coarse grain (CG) layer traffic and a fine grain (FG) layer traffic for a give VR/AR scene update. The CG layer traffic is scheduled first in resource units (RUs) of a plurality a transmission opportunity (TXOP) for a VR device and FG layer traffic is scheduled in remaining RUs during the TXOP to provide synchronous viewing experiences to users of the VR/AR devices.

Abstract: A method includes capturing, using an Internet of Things (IoT) device, real-time video of a user performing an exercise associated with a first exercise class. Real-time video of the user is displayed, via a display, concurrently with video of an instructor, to provide a visual comparison of the user to the instructor. Image analysis of the real-time video of the user is performed to determine a performance of the user, and a representation thereof is displayed. Biometric data associated with the user is received at the IoT device from a wearable device at multiple points in time. Heart rates are identified based on the biometric data, and scores based on the heart rates are displayed via the display. A recommendation for a second exercise class different from the first exercise class is determined based on a profile of the user, and displayed via the display.

Abstract: Techniques are described for adapting the format of streaming media based on received interactions with the media. In an embodiment, a client computer system receives from media streaming service an initial version of media in an initial media format. After the media is presented, a request to interact with the initial version of the media may be received. Such a request may cause the client system to generate a change request data for the initial version of media. Based at least in part on the change request data for the initial version of the media, the new format for streaming the media to the client computer system is determined. The client computer system receives the media streamed in the new format.

Abstract: Instructions are transmitted to first and second client devices to facilitate rendering of a video relating to an event (e.g., a broadcast of a live sporting event) together with event information (e.g., score information, online gaming information, team/player statistics). The first and second client devices are both instructed to receive the event information from an event socket of a socket server so that both client devices are synchronized and client-by-client latency is significantly reduced or mitigated. In one example, viewer latency between the event and the rendered video is on the order of two seconds or less. Event information is regularly updated at the event socket to also significantly reduce latency between the video and the event information. Event information may be rendered as one or more user-interactive features overlaid on or adjacent to the video. When a user selects a user-interactive feature, a client device may obtain additional information relating to the event or redirect to a web site or an app.

Abstract: Described embodiments provide for dynamically optimizing the number of application layer streams that may be multiplexed into a single transport layer connection, providing the advantages of application layer multiplexing without incurring unnecessary congestion-based network delays. A device may monitor net bandwidth and packet loss rates for a connection, and may dynamically increase and decrease a number of concurrent application layer streams to balance throughput and congestion avoidance. As congestion increases, the device may reduce concurrent stream limits in order to spawn additional transport layer connections, allowing faster congestion recovery and reduced performance impairment.

Abstract: Methods and systems for encoder parameter setting optimization. A media item to be provided to one or more users of a platform is identified. The media item is associated with a media class. An indication of the identified media item is provided as input to a first machine learning model. The first machine learning model is trained to predict, for a given media item, a set of encoder parameter settings that satisfy a performance criterion in view of a respective media class associated with the given media item. One or more outputs of the first machine learning model are obtained. The one or more obtained outputs include encoder data identifying one or more sets of encoder parameter settings and, for each of the sets of encoder parameter settings, an indication of a level of confidence that a respective set of encoder parameter settings satisfies the performance criterion in view of the media class associated with the identified media item. The identified media item is encoded using the respective set of encoding parameter settings associated with the level of confidence that satisfies a confidence criterion.

Abstract: An encoder resource receives segments of content on one or more data feeds. The encoder resource receives and/or produces encoder control information specifying multiple different bit rate data streams on which to encode the segments of content. As specified by the encoder control information, in accordance with encoding rules, the encoder resource adaptively encodes the segments of content into a varying number of different bit rate data streams.
