Abstract:
Fiber-optic cable is wound on a cylindrical bobbin without adhesive and is situated in the vehicle so that the cable, attached to a relatively stationary control computer station, is pulled freely off of the bobbin as the vehicle, such as a missile or torpedo, travels rapidly away from the station. In one embodiment, a propulsion engine is located within the hollow interior of the bobbin and the cable flows outwardly in a helix around the plume of the engine.
Abstract:
An auxiliary yarn releasing apparatus which can control the releasing tension of a yarn of a thick yarn number count is proposed. The auxiliary yarn releasing apparatus is constructed such that a cover portion which covers over a substantially entire chase portion of a yarn supply bobbin is provided on a balloon controlling member which is put over a take-up tube as releasing of a yarn of a yarn supply bobbin proceeds.
Abstract:
An apparatus for imparting a braking force to an advancing strand is disclosed, and which includes a mechanical compensating arm brake followed in series by a movement dependent brake. The movement dependent brake may take any one of several forms, including an eddy-current brake which is directly connected to a roll which is driven by the strand, a hysteresis brake which is directly connected to a roll which is driven by the strand, or a brake of any type which is connected to a roll which is driven by the strand via a clutch, such as a centrifugal clutch, which is operated as a function of the speed of the movement of the strand.
Abstract:
A retainer ring for a container of low twist welding wire which container includes a cylindrical outer wall, a lower partition and an upper opening through which the welding wire is drawn from a hollow, cylindrical spool of welding wire formed from a multitude of convolutions of wire in layers provided in the container wherein the retainer ring comprises a generally flat outer portion with an outer periphery fitting into the outer wall of the container, minimally contacting the wire surface, and comprising a number of projecting lobe portions whereby the outer periphery of the ring contains alternate areas first being closer to and then being farther from the outer walls of the container when the retainer ring is resting upon the hollow spool of welding wire in the container and an inner bell mouthed portion extending upwardly and defining an innermost wire extraction opening with a diameter substantially smaller than the spool of wire in the container.
Abstract:
A length of filament (32), wire or optical fiber, is wound into a pack (30) on a cylindrical drum (44) located within an open-ended housing (38). The housing is mounted within a missile (26) with the housing open end (38) facing aft. An undersized front wall (48) fits over the enclosure open end leaving a circular gap or space (50) through which the filament is dispensed. An outer end portion of the filament is reinforced (42) both mechanically and thermally to allow dispensing through outer regions of the missile rocket plume. The walls defining the circular gap (50) brake the filament dispensing to a predetermined maximum speed.
Abstract:
A missile data link filament (12) dispenser (10) is located within an enclosure (20) having a single eyelet opening (26) through which the filament feeds on launch. A quantity of a particulate material (28) located within the enclosure (20) is converted to an aerosol mixture by the filament movement on dispense. The aerosol mixture serves to act as a brake on the filament preventing dispense speed exceeding a predetermined desirable maximum.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an apparatus that can be connected to one of the flanges of a spool with wire for the purpose of axially taking off wire from the spool and at least comprising two spaced apart annular elements that are coaxial with the axis of the spool and that have an outside diameter that is larger than the outside diameter of the flange in question of the spool and a cylindrical bearing surface being provided between the two annular elements that is coaxial with the spool axis for a band of slightly stretchable material loosely fitting round it, whereby one of the two annular elements is rotatable on its axis and the other is fixedly mounted and in that the cylindrical bearing surface is fixedly connected to one of the two annular elements.
Abstract:
A kink preventing device for preventing occurrence of a kink in a yarn drawn out from a yarn supply bobbin of a winder includes a pair of kink bars supported for opening and closing movement with the yarn supply bobbin interposed therebetween and each having a contacting portion which is arcuately opened along an outer peripheral portion of the bobbin, and a kink bar opening and closing means for moving the kink bars to close until the contacting portions thereof are abutted with each other to connect the kink bars in a ring-like configuration to each other.
Abstract:
Process for unwinding a thread from a reel in looms, wherein the thread (6) is guided through a thread guide (4) placed behind the reel, characterized thereby that the distance (L) between said thread guide (4) and said reel (3) is adjusted automatically mainly during the weaving process.
Abstract:
A yarn brake and process for applying substantially uniform tension to at least two yarns moving from separate, cross-wound, supply packages of yarn in a textile yarn processing machine, particularly a two-for-one twister, is provided. The yarn brake mechanism includes a member defining an outer, frusto-conical shaped, yarn braking surface tapered in the linear direction of movement of the yarns, and a comb-like, braking, ring member slidably positioned around the braking surface for receiving the moving yarns in braking engagement between the braking surface and the ring member. The ring member has slightly spaced-apart teeth of pliantly elastic, springy material positioned therearound and extending therefrom generally in the linear direction of movement of the yarns. The teeth are inclined with respect to the ring both inwardly into contact with the braking surface and circumferentially in the direction of movement of the yarns so that at least two of the teeth overlap each other along each directrix of the braking surface and apply uniform tension to each of the at least two yarns.
