    摘要: Multi-station reaction injection molding apparatus is disclosed for in-place foaming of polymerizable resins in articles advanced along a production line, as for example in the manufacture of insulated appliance housings such as refrigerator cabinets. The articles are selectively diverted from a feed conveyor, one to each of a plurality of pour stations adjacent the feed conveyor. At the stations, injection of foamable resin mix is accomplished by reaction injection type molding heads which combine at least two liquid resin components. These components are suitably catalyzed to react and form a cellular or foamed polymerized resin. The liquid components are separately but continuously supplied to respective supply manifolds to which all of the heads are connected in parallel by shunting ducts. Excess unmixed liquid components are returned separately from each of the heads through recycle shunting ducts to respective recycle manifolds. Thus division of the component flows takes place among all of the heads, whereby to maintain temperature and compositional uniformity of the components as close to the point of mixing and injection as possible. Control means selectively determine the order in which each pour station injects foam mix into an article. That same control further produces a metered output of the respective components at elevated pressure sufficient to effect reaction injection mixing at the selected head, while simultaneously interrupting the flow of all components at all of the other heads. Reduction of off-ratio mixing problems, and greater uniformity of foam properties, are thus achieved.

    摘要: A pneumatic tire is moulded using a mould core of cured rubber the radial sectional shape of which is the same as the internal radial sectional configuration of the finished tire. The opposite sides of the core are supported by fitting plates while a tread portion of tire is moulded onto the exposed outer periphery of the core. Thereafter the side plates are removed in turn and replaced by sidewall mould halves enabling sidewalls to be moulded against the core in contact with the tread portion.

    摘要: A method of making a container, particularly a rectangular tray-like container, in which a blank is provided having side panels which are displaced to form the side walls of the container. The blank is clamped in its container - forming shape between mould tools with adjacent ends of the side panels juxtaposed end corner seams and a lip are injection moulded to seam the side panels and form a peripheral lip on the free edges of the side panels remote from the base panel. The mould tools shape the free edges of the side panels to an internally concave form between the juxtaposed side panel ends before moulding so that shrinkage of the moulding will accentuate the concavity to give a predetermined consistent shape to containers so produced and avoid unpredictable buckling and deformity.

    摘要: In accordance with a preferred embodiment of this invention, a controlled phase change is used to trigger an exothermic polymerization reaction in an injection molding process. The subject method comprises first, dispersing a crystalline urea reactant, 1,3-bis-(3-isocyanatotolyl) urea, in a liquid polyoxyalkylene polyol or mixtures thereof. Since the polyols do not dissolve the urea at room temperature, the dispersion is storage stable over an extended period of time. This is unexpected because the isocyanate and hydroxyl functionalities are normally quite reactive. In the barrel of the injection molding machine, the dispersion is heated to a temperature at which the polyol will begin to dissolve and thereby react with the crystalline urea to initiate a controllable polyurethane-forming reaction. At present, the specific urea disclosed above is preferred because of its ability to (1) form a storage stable dispersion, (2) dissolve in the polyol at a temperature below its decomposition temperature, and (3) react with the polyol at controllable rates once it has dissolved. All three properties are important to this invention and they enable the practitioner to use conventional injection molding equipment.
