    摘要: Methods and systems for periodic optical filtering to identify tone modulated optical signals may enable relatively rapid scanning of an optical signal to identify individual optical channels. The optical signal having tone modulated optical channels may be scanned over a free spectral range of a periodic optical filter, such as a comb filter, to generate a filtered signal. Then, center optical frequencies for each of the optical channels in the filtered signal may be determined by demodulation and digital signal processing.

    摘要: A multiport optical switch (such as an N×1 switch) is used to controllably select a specific incoming optical signal that is to be processed by an associated optical channel monitor (OCM). The OCM includes a tunable optical filter and photodetector arrangement, and is configured to measure the optical spectrum of the incoming optical signal and extract information associated with the various optical channels (wavelengths) forming the incoming optical signal (i.e., power, wavelength, OSNR and the like for each channel). The OCM also includes a signal processing component that generates a pair of output control signals, a first signal to control the wavelength scanning process of the tunable optical filter and a second signal to control the setting of the multiport optical switch.

    摘要: Tuning parameters of individual wavelength channels transmitted over a multimode optical fiber is provided. Characteristics of the multimode optical fiber used for an optical data link within an optical signal transmission system are retrieved. A wavelength channel grid including each central wavelength in a plurality of central wavelengths that corresponds to each particular wavelength channel in a plurality of wavelength channels used to transmit data via optical signals over the multimode optical fiber is determined. A maximum allowable data rate is calculated for each wavelength channel based on the characteristics of the multimode optical fiber at defined channel wavelengths, optical signal transceiver specifications, and data transmission performance requirements for the optical signal transmission system. Operational parameters are assigned to each wavelength channel based on the calculated maximum allowable data rate for each wavelength channel to achieve the data transmission performance requirements for the optical signal transmission system.

    摘要: An optical device includes an optical port array having first and second optical inputs for receiving optical beams and a first plurality of optical outputs associated with switching functionality and a second plurality of optical outputs associated with channel monitoring functionality. A dispersion element receives the optical beam from an input and spatially separates the beam into a plurality of wavelength components. The focusing element focuses the wavelength components. The optical path conversion system receives the plurality of wavelength components and selectively directs each one to a prescribed one of the optical ports. The photodetectors are each associated with one of the optical outputs in the second plurality of optical outputs and receive a wavelength component therefrom. The controller causes the optical path conversion system to simultaneously direct each of the wavelength components to a different one of the optical outputs of the second plurality of optical outputs.
