Abstract: A snowshoe having a floatation structure and a binding configured to secure a wearer's foot to the snowshoe. The floatation structure is adapted to distribute the weight of the wearer over an area larger than the wearer's foot. The snowshoe may include a pivot adjuster secured to the snowshoe and configured to enable selective adjustment of pivotal movement occurring between the binding and the floatation structure. The pivot adjuster typically is configured to enable operation by the wearer while wearing the snowshoe. Additionally, or alternatively, the snowshoe may include a pivot limiter configured to enable selective adjustment of a permitted range of pivoting between the binding and floatation structure. In addition to or instead of these features, the snowshoe may include an extension configured for selective attachment to the floatation structure so as to permit selective variation of the area over which weight is distributed by the snowshoe.

Abstract: An ice-gripping sandal for releasable mounting on the foot of a person or on the sole of a boot or other primary footwear worn by the person. The sandal comprises a sole, a toe strapping assembly and a heel strapping assembly for mounting the sandal on the boot. The sandal's sole has a bottom surface having plural groups of cleats projecting therefrom. Some of the cleats are located within a forefoot and toe portion of the sole and extend at an acute angle to the longitudinal axis of the sole. These cleats include end portions having respective ice-gripping screws mounted therein. Grooves are provided between the cleats in the forefoot and toe portions of the sole, with the width and depth of the grooves increasing from the medial side of the sole to the lateral side of the sole. The grooves enable material which may tend to adhere to the sole within the grooves to be forced out of the grooves when the wearer walks. In order to increase the flexibility of the sole plural recesses are provided in the arch region contiguous with the forefoot portion.

Abstract: An anti-slip device for use with footwear such as running shoes, snowshoes, boots and the like, is described. The anti-slip device is adjustable to fit to different sizes of footwear and is especially suitable for use on snow and ice covered surfaces. The anti-slip device includes a heel portion, a toe portion and one or more traction plates attached to the underside of the heel portion. The heel portion includes a tongue portion which provides additional traction and stability to the anti-slip device. The toe portion is adjustable in relation to the heel portion through the use of a plurality of mating serrations and alignable apertures. A fastening means is attached to the heel portion and the toe portion to provide for attachment of the anti-slip device to footwear. If desired, the traction plate utilized with the anti-slip device can be hingedly connected to a snowshoe frame. Additionally described is a footwarmer/protector utilizable with the anti-slip device of the invention or with conventionally known snowshoe bindings or traction devices.
