摘要： A heatseal porous plugwrap made with a naturally porous combiner wrap and spray-applied hot melt adhesive. The natural porosity of the combiner wrap paper and the superficial location of sprayed adhesive greatly inhibit the penetration of adhesive to the outer surface of the paper, thus minimizing the possibility that the adhesive will interfere with the tipping process. The use of a sprayer to apply the adhesive allows for only the required amount of adhesive to be utilized and thus eliminates waste.

A certain percentage of water is expelled from the adhesive prior to application of uniting bands to groups of coaxial plain cigarettes and filter plugs by a heating device whose heating action upon the adhesive on the web and/or uniting bands is regulatable in dependency on the speed of transport of the adhesive-coated web and/or uniting bands toward the location of attachment of uniting bands to the respective groups.

摘要： A web of cigarette paper, imitation cork or similar sheet-like material which is used as a tubular wrapper for rod-like fillers of tobacco or filter material or which is subdivided into discrete uniting bands for plain cigarettes and filter plugs is coated with one or more layers of an aqueous dispersion of hotmelt. The layer or layers are thereupon heated to expel water therefrom before the web is draped around one or more rod-shaped smokers' products. The layer or layers are thereupon heated to a temperature at which the dried hotmelt melts, either before or during and/or subsequent to draping, to activate the hotmelt. If the web is converted into uniting bands prior to draping around groups of coaxial rod-shaped articles, and if the filter plugs of filter cigarettes are to be provided with holes for admission of atmospheric air into the column of tobacco smoke, the web is provided with two spaced-apart layers of aqueous dispersion of hotmelt prior to subdivision into uniting bands and the holes for admission of atmospheric air are formed in the two layers subsequent to expulsion of liquid.

摘要： Apparatus for making composite filter plugs for cigarettes or the like has a garniture which transports a web of cigarette paper or the like past a transfer conveyor which deposits on the web groups of aligned filter rod sections of two or more different types so that the sections are disposed end-to-end and form a continuous filler. Those portions of the web which are contacted by the sections are coated with a wet adhesive or a heat-activatable adhesive to insure that the sections cannot be shifted relative to the web, and the adhesive is heated or cooled in the region of the transfer conveyor to promote rapid setting. One marginal portion of the web is coated with wet adhesive or heat-activatable adhesive upstream or downstream of the transfer conveyor, and the web thereupon passes through a wrapping mechanism which drapes the web around the filler so that the one marginal portion adheres to the other marginal portion and the web constitutes the tubular wrapper of a filter rod which is severed at regular intervals to yield filter plugs each of which contains at least a portion of each type of section. The adhesive which is applied by the second paster is heated or cooled downstream of the wrapping mechanism.
