Abstract:
A network arrangement is provided for processing credit transactions. A financial network is used to route communications securely between interfaces with the financial network. Merchant systems are coupled with the interfaces, with each merchant system transmitting requests for authorization of credit transactions through the financial network. An issuer system authorizes credit transactions in response to receipt of requests that specify at least a credit account to be used to support a particular credit transaction and a transaction amount for the particular credit transaction. A guarantor system separate from the issuer system determines whether to guarantee credit transactions in response to the requests and transmits responses indicating whether specific credit transactions are to be guaranteed through the financial network to the merchant systems.
Abstract:
A mobile communications device is described which includes an input sensor, a memory unit, processing unit, and an antenna configured to wirelessly transmit and receive financial account data for a transaction. The antenna is configured to receive a request for data stored on the memory unit, and may also be configured to induce a voltage from a magnetic field to power certain components of the device. The input sensor may control whether the components can be so powered from the magnetic field. Alternatively, input from the input sensor may otherwise control the functionality of the device. By way of example, data representative of an input received by the input sensor may be transmitted in addition to the requested data.
Abstract:
One embodiment of the invention allows a merchant to obtain a request sent by an investigator for supporting documentation or information and reply with a scanned document in reply to the investigator's request. The investigator can then process the scanned document and/or merchant response and quickly and efficiently resolve a disputed payment transaction.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for electronically processing accounts receivable (AR) check transactions via a location-base device associated with a merchant. The location-base device, such as a point-of-sale (POS) device, can be configured to perform various functions that facilitate processing of AR checks. Such functions may include improved user interface, an ability to handle a repetitive input parameter, an ability to handle multiple merchant identifiers, an ability to generate multiple receipt types, an ability to edit check transactions, an ability to manage throughput of the device, and an ability to allow scanning of different types of checks so as to allow subsequent processing of the scanned checks to be different based on the type of the check. The location-base device configured in one or more of the foregoing manner facilitates a check authorization process performed by a check processing service.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for activating a payment account. The payment account is associated with two identifiers. A payment instrument is provided as having the two identifiers. A first identifier is read at a first point of sale device to activate the payment account. A second identifier is read by a radio frequency identification reader at a second point of sale device to access funds in the payment account. The first point of sale device may not be capable of reading the second identifier.
Abstract:
A three dimensional (3d) bar code can be affixed to a financial instrument (e.g., the credit card) sent to a consumer. Upon receiving the financial instrument, the consumer can acquire an image of the 3D bar code with an image capture device (e.g., a camera) of a mobile device. The mobile device can interpret or decode the 3D bar code to extract a web address. The mobile device may then send a request for a web page associated with the web address, which could be returned by the web server at the financial institution. The web page may allow the consumer to enter personal information. Upon receiving the personal information, the financial institution can verify the information, authenticate the consumer, and activate the financial account.
Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for processing secure transactions. An electromagnetic transmission packet is received from a portable device at a processing device. The electromagnetic transmission packet includes an encrypted magnetic-stripe image and an encrypted version of an alphanumerical identifier. A keyed nonencrypted version of the alphanumerical identifier is received at the processing device, and the encrypted version of the alphanumerical identifier is decrypted. The decryption of the encrypted version of the alphanumerical identifier is compared with the nonencrypted version of the alphanumerical identifier. Thereafter, a decryption of the encrypted magnetic-stripe image is transmitted to a host system for processing the secure transaction using an account identified by the decryption of the magnetic-stripe image.
Abstract:
According to one embodiment of the invention, a method of activating a plurality of gift cards utilizes a package of multiple presentation instruments. Each presentation instrument includes a unique presentation instrument identifier used to associate funds with the presentation instrument. Also, the package includes a package identifier. In one step, the package identifier is read from the package and is transmitted over an electronic network to a host computer system which evaluates the package identifier to determine whether the package identifier is valid. If so, each of the presentation instruments in the package is activated for a certain activation amount.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention may relate to systems and methods providing multiple account holder functionality for stored value accounts. In one embodiment, a method may include executing computer program instructions by one or more processors for receiving a request to create a secondary stored value account for a recipient; creating the secondary stored value account for the recipient; and establishing an association between a primary stored value account and the secondary stored value account. The method may further include establishing transaction rules associated with the secondary stored value account. The transaction rules can include funding rules limiting funding of the secondary stored value account to occur from the primary stored value account, and access rules preventing access to account information associated with the secondary stored value account by a primary account holder associated with the primary stored value account.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for producing a presentation instrument involve receiving an image file having an account number stamp, and producing the image file onto a piece of stock material, such that a visible account number corresponding to the account number stamp is created on the stock material. The visible account number is scanned with a reader. An account number record is encoded onto a presentation instrument, and compared with the scanned visible account number.
