Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for feeding back channel quality information and performing scheduling using the fed-back channel quality information in a wireless communication system based on Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA). In the OFDMA wireless communication system, forward performance degradation due to a decrease in an amount of reverse channel quality information is reduced, and also an increase in the reverse load due to channel quality information feedback is suppressed. A base station controls power of a physical channel using information fed back from a mobile station. In a method for feeding back channel quality information from the mobile station, sub-band-by-sub-band channel quality information is measured and channel-by-channel quality information of a number of channels is transmitted in order of sub-bands of better channel quality information. Average channel quality information for a total band is measured and transmitted.

Abstract: A system and a method minimize power consumption, signalling overhead, and processing load in blind scheduling in a mobile communication system. If there is no data to transmit using the UL grant, the UE determines whether to transmit a padding Medium Access Control (MAC) Protocol Data Unit (PDU) to an Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN) Node B (eNB) using the UL grant according to the type of the UL grant.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided in which a configuration message to configure at least one uplink carrier is received. A power headroom report (PHR) is triggered for a first uplink carrier if a predetermined event occurs. An allocation of an uplink transmission resource is detected for the PHR. It is identified whether the first uplink carrier for which a power headroom (PH) is to be determined is different from a second carrier to which the uplink transmission resource is allocated. The PH is determined based on a first pathloss associated with the first uplink carrier, if the first uplink carrier is different from the second carrier. The PHR generated based the determined PH is transmitted.

Abstract: A random access channel (RACH) management method performed by a user equipment (UE) in a mobile communication system and an apparatus are provided. The method includes receiving, from a network, a signal indicative of a resolution of contention in a RACH procedure before a contention resolution timer expires; determining, if the received signal includes a contention resolution message including a unique identifier (ID) of the UE, that the RACH procedure has been successfully completed; receiving, from the network, after the successful completion of the RACH procedure, a UE information transmit request; and transmitting, to the network, in response to receipt of the UE information transmit request, a response message including first information indicating that the contention is detected in at least one preamble transmitted for the completed RACH procedure and indicating a number of the at least one preamble in which the contention is detected.
