    Abstract: A surface-coated cutting tool includes a base material and a coating formed on the base material. The coating includes an α-Al2O3 layer. The α-Al2O3 layer contains a plurality of α-Al2O3 crystal grains and chlorine, and has a TC(006) of more than 5 in texture coefficient TC(hkl). The α-Al2O3 layer includes lower and upper layers, the lower layer is located closer to the base material than the upper layer is, and the upper layer is located opposite to the base material across the lower layer, in a thickness direction of the α-Al2O3 layer. The lower layer has a thickness of 1.0 μm. The upper layer has a thickness of 0.5 μm or more. The chlorine in the lower layer has a concentration distribution in which an atomic concentration CCl of the chlorine decreases in a direction away from the base material, in a thickness direction of the lower layer.

    Abstract: A surface-coated cutting tool includes a base material and a coating formed on a surface of the base material. The coating includes a first hard coating layer including crystal grains having a sodium chloride-type crystal structure. The crystal grain has a layered structure in which a first layer composed of nitride or carbonitride of AlxTi1−x and a second layer composed of nitride or carbonitride of AlyTi1−y are stacked alternately into one or more layers. The first layer each has an atomic ratio x of Al varying in a range of 0.76 or more to less than 1. The second layer each has an atomic ratio y of Al varying in a range of 0.45 or more to less than 0.76. The largest value of difference between the atomic ratio x and the atomic ratio y is 0.05≤x−y≤0.5.

    Abstract: A surface-coated cutting tool according to the present invention includes a coating. The coating includes an α-Al2O3 layer. Each of the α-Al2O3 layers on a side of a rake face and a side of a flank face shows (001) orientation. In the α-Al2O3 layer on the rake face side, a length LR3 of a Σ3 crystal grain boundary exceeds 80% of a length LR3-29 of a Σ3-29 crystal grain boundary and is not lower than 10% and not higher than 50% of a total length LR of all grain boundaries. In the α-Al2O3 layer on the flank face side, a length LF3 of a Σ3 crystal grain boundary exceeds 80% of a length LF3-29 of a Σ3-29 crystal grain boundary and is not lower than 10% and not higher than 50% of a total length LF of all grain boundaries. A ratio LR3/LR3-29 is higher than a ratio LF3/LF3-29.
