Abstract: This document describes monitoring and managing wireless backhaul integrated with mobile access in fifth generation new radio (5G NR) wireless networks. The techniques described employ an Integrated Backhaul-Access and Mobility Function (IB-AMF) to enable authorization of a base station to access a 5G network through another base station. The techniques described also monitor channel conditions and traffic loads to manage backhaul links and facilitate handovers of base station backhaul connections between other base stations.

Abstract: This document describes improvements in mobility for user equipment (UE) (110) between cellular and Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) (170) in fifth generation new radio (5G NR) wireless networks, as well as 3rd Generation Partnership Project Long-Term Evolution (3GPP LTE) or Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access (E-UTRA) networks. A cellular-WLAN network interface is introduced to monitor and manage WLAN networks (170) and Access Points (160), and to facilitate handoffs of UE (110) between WLAN APs (160), between WLAN networks (170), and between WLAN networks (170) and cellular networks (140). The cellular-WLAN network interface enables an Access and Mobility Function (220) in a 5G network or a Mobility Management Entity (330) in an E-UTRA network to request information from UE (110) and WLAN APs (160), manage the operating configuration of WLAN APs (160), and initiate UE (110) handoffs.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes techniques and systems to mitigate a power condition local to a user device by deactivating high-bandwidth transmission of data to the user device. While receiving multiple streams of data as part of high-bandwidth wireless communications, the user device determines a local power condition and sends a deactivation message that causes a base station to deactivate transmission of at least one of the multiple streams of data.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes methods and apparatuses for user device-requested downlink pilots. Downlink pilots can be used by the user device to estimate a channel over which the user device receives data from a base station, thus improving error rates for decoding the data. Some examples of downlink pilots include demodulation reference signals (DM-RS), channel state reference signals (CS-RS), or sounding reference signals (SRS). By enabling the user device to request downlink pilots, the base station can transmit downlink pilots that are customized to provide reference signals with desired characteristics, such as positions within a frequency-time domain of the channel over which the user device receives data from the base station. The customized downlink pilots can enable the user device to better use reference signals to successfully receive and decode data from the base station.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes techniques and systems for wireless communication via a mobile relay. These techniques may include a user device that determines that a transceiver is unavailable for communicating with a base station via a wireless connection. The user device then uses a mobile relay to communicate with the base station while the transceiver is unavailable. The mobile relay may be used for transmitting or receiving data from the base station. Additionally or alternatively, the mobile relay may participate in the wireless connection as an external resource of the mobile device or may establish an independent wireless connection with the base station.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes techniques for, and systems that enable, inter-radio access technology spectrum sharing. For example, a wireless network provider can cause a legacy wireless network to share temporarily available communication resources with a new wireless network. By enabling the legacy wireless network to share its frequency spectrum with the new wireless network, the wireless network provider can temporarily expand a frequency spectrum of the new wireless network. By doing so, the wireless network can better utilize advantages of the new wireless network and provide a better experience to user devices equipped with the new communication technology.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes methods and apparatuses for inter-radio access technology carrier (RAT) aggregation. In aspects, a user device (102) establishes a wireless link (106) for communicating with one or more base stations (104, 202) via a first component carrier (214) and a second component carrier (208, 220). The first component carrier uses a (RAT) having a first transmission time interval (TTI) and the second component carrier uses a second RAT having a second, different TTI. The user device receives user plane data via the second component carrier and analyzes the user plane data to determine whether data packets of the user plane data were successfully or unsuccessfully received by the user device (804, 806). The user device then transmits, via a next available uplink subframe or time slot of the first component carrier of the first RAT, a feedback communication based on which data packets were successfully received (808).

Abstract: The present disclosure describes methods and apparatuses for narrow-band communication. In some aspects, a base station determines a quantity of resource elements to allocate to a user device for wireless communication based on a state of the user device. The base station selects, from a resource block, resource elements for the user device that include the determined quantity of resource elements and a portion of subcarriers of the resource block. The base station then communicates, to the user device, an identification of the selected resource elements that includes respective frequencies and time locations of the selected resource elements within the resource block.

Abstract: A wireless communication system employs DNNs or other neural networks to provide for RAT-assisted positioning of UEs. A TX DNN at the BS generates and provides for wireless transmission of a reference signal to the UE. An RX DNN at the UE receives the reference signal and local UE sensor data as input, and from this input generates a UE measurement and sensor report. A TX DNN at the UE receives the report as an input, and from this input generates an RF signal representing the UE measurement and sensor report for transmission to the BS. An RX DNN at the BS receives the report from the RF signal as input, and from this input generates a position estimate of the UE.
