A portable label applying machine comprises a label cassette having a supporting section for supporting a roll of a label strip, a separating section for inverting the backing paper strip alone so as to cause the labels to separate from the backing paper strip and a guide section for guiding the backing paper strip. It also comprises an applier having a feeding mechanism and an applying section. The feeding mechanism has the label cassette detachably mounted thereon and transfers the backing paper strip in cooperation with a manual lever, so as to cause separation of the labels from the backing paper strip at the separating section. The applying section applies the separated labels to goods. An auxiliary separating member is mounted at a position in front of the labels along their feeding direction and in front of the separating section, whereby a label which might not separate from the backing paper strip is lifted off that strip by the auxiliary separating member.

The disclosure concerns a code plate device for a label printing and applying machine having a platen, a fixed hand grip, a hinged hand lever opposable to the hand grip, and a printing device carried on a printing lever extending from the hand lever so that the printing device is brought into and out of engagement with the platen, respectively, when the hand lever is squeezed and released. The code plate device includes a body having a guiding dovetail element which is removably fitted into a dovetail shaped engagement groove on the printing lever so that the code plate device can be detachably slid into attachment with the printing lever. The dovetail connection is oriented so that the code plate device is slid into position laterally of the machine. There is a foldable knob which is hingedly attached to the code plate body so that it can be extended straight for being grasped to enable attachment or detachment of the code plate device or can be folded up for moving the knob out of the way.

An ink supply device for inking the types of a hand labeler device, usually including at least two inking rollers which are rotatable over the type surfaces of a printing head; these ink rollers are removably held in an ink roller assembly which is, in turn, removably held in a movable holder; guide grooves in the side walls of the hand labeler frame guide the ink rollers over the type surfaces; roller cartridge frames are attached removably to the ink roller assembly for holding the ink rollers; retaining projections formed on at least one of the cartridge frames retain it in the holder and the projections act as knobs for attachment and removal of the corresponding cartridge frame, thus facilitating replacement of the ink rollers.In a second embodiment, the ink roller assembly includes one or more roller holders for rotatably holding the ink rollers; a pair of elastically biased knobs are removably attached to the roller holder, and each is formed with a retaining pin; a support member of the assembly is attached to the link mechanism of the hand labeler for removably holding the ink roller assembly; the support member includes retaining holes for receiving the retaining pins; actuating members which elastically bias the support member.

The disclosure concerns a printing platen for use with a hand labeler, or the like. The platen assures there will be clear imprint by the types of the printing head, with all characters having an averaged density, even if there are discrepancies in the heights and orientations among the type surfaces of the printing head of the hand labeler. The platen includes an impression plate formed from an elastic member having a rough surface, onto which a continuous strip of labels is fed and against which the type surfaces are contacted through the label strip. The impression plate roughness may comprise multiple parallel corrugations or an array of a large number of projections, e.g. a checkerboard array. These projections may have any of square, pyramid, hexagonal and semispherical cross-sectional shapes.
Abstract:
A clog prevention device is disclosed for use with a label printing and applying machine. The clog prevention device includes a pair of juxtaposed label guide walls which extend longitudinally up from and at both sides of the printing platen. A label receiving recess is formed in the upper surface of the printing platen between the label guide walls and that recess has a larger width than that of the label strip so that at least both side edges of the label strip may be prevented from contacting the label guide walls of the platen, whereby adhesive at the edges of the label strip does not foul the platen. Label relief grooves are also formed along both sides of the label receiving recess for the same reasons. Openings extend through the platen at the edges of the recess in the upper surface of the platen so that label chips formed when the label strip is pierced or punched during label strip feeding can move away from the label strip. A label receiving recess in the underside of the platen is narrower than the recess on the upper surface and the underside recess guides the separated carrier paper past the platen and centers the label strip over the platen.

The disclosure concerns a correction label applying device for a portable label printing machine, which is used to correct the characters printed on price tags. The correction label applying device is detachably secured to the body of the portable label printing machine. The price tag holding device of the label applying device is provided with adjusting means in which the positions of stoppers which receive the tip edge portion of an inserted price tag and the positions of a pair of guides which guide both the side edges of the inserted price tag can be changed. A leaf spring gives elastic force to the price tag holder.

The disclosure concerns a label strip inserting device for use in a label printing machine of the type in which a tape-like label strip is carried between a label feed wheel and a label depressing member. The label strip inserting device comprises a platen, which is pivotally secured to the machine body of the label printing machine. An actuating member is interlocked with the platen and is pivoted thereby. A label depressing member is interlocked with the actuating member and it has a label depressing surface to drive the label strip toward the outer surface of the label feed wheel. There are links, which are interlocked with both the platen and the label depressing member. The label inserting device is constructed so that, when a tape-like label strip is to be inserted into the machine body, the platen may be turned to a full open position to separate the label depressing member from the surface of the label feed wheel, thereby forming a large guide passage for insertion of the label strip.

An ink supply device for use in a labeling machine: the ink supply device includes at least one inking roller; guide means on the frame of the labeling machine guide the inking roller to roll over the printing surface of a printing head; the guide means may comprise curved slots in or rails on the side plates of the machine frame; guide rollers that support the inking rollers are received in the guide means; in another embodiment, there are additional bearing plates attached at both ends of an inking roller; these plates are engageable with the lower end surfaces of the printing head; in other embodiments, two inking rollers are provided; each such roller is biased and guided in a different way; springs may bias both rollers toward the print surface, or only one roller; the roller may be guided to vertically shift over the print surface by a guide slot in the support carriage for the roller or by the slot of the guide means.

The disclosure relates to a cartridge type supply device for use with a portable, one-hand-operable labeling machine of the type including a printing mechanism with printing types arranged for imprinting inscriptions on each of a series of labels traveling along a predetermined path through the machine toward a dispensing opening of the machine. The ink supply device comprises a cartridge holder pivotally supported at one end thereof within the labeling machine in a readily detachable manner and a replaceable inking roller cartridge supported detachably by the other end of said cartridge holder said cartridge including a rotatable inking roller. The cartridge holder is spring-biased to urge the inking roller onto surfaces of the printing types of the printing mechanism of the labeling machine. When the inking roller cartridge is used up, the cartridge holder can be taken out of the machine together with the used cartridge. A cartridge box for housing spare inking roller cartridges is provided.
