The arrangement also has a sucker arrangement that includes a carrying arm which is driven by a drive. At a free end of the carrying arm there is arranged an extension arm with a suction head. The movement path of the suction head runs in the interior of the rotor, with the exception of an approximately V-shaped section of the movement path projecting in a radial direction outside the rotor. When the extension arm runs through this section, it passes through a cutout of the rotor in order to grip a corner region of a printed product and move the printed product into the interior of the rotor. A rotor arm then engages beneath the printed product and lifts it further in order to deliver it to a range of action of a removal conveyor.

A process and apparatus for combining printed products of a plurality of types to form sets having products of each type. The first type of products are arranged in an imbricated formation in which they overlap one another in a first conveying direction and the edges run obliquely with respect to the first conveying direction. Products of another type are then deposited on the first products successively with the same alignment. Subsequent types of products may be similarly assembled to form the set of products. The formed sets having one of each type of products are then separated and conveyed in a further conveying direction which is angularly displaced from the first conveying direction.

The assembly has a pressure arrangement designed to apply the assembly on the upper surface of the stream of sheets. The drive of the rotary brush is obtained from the rotation of the driving roller by means of a toric ring mounted on a circumference of a cylindrical head of an axle for the rotary brush being received on a cylindrical surface formed in a recess of the driving roller. The amount of torque being transferred is obtained by adjusting the position of the rotary brush relative to the driving roller.

By a first conveying device printing products are fed in an imbricated formation (S), in which each printing product rests on the following one, the fold edge of the folded products forming the trailing edge. The printing products are pushed into an intermediate stack from below. The respectively uppermost product of this intermediate stack is seized in the region of the fold edge by at least one sucker of a sucker arrangement, raised upward and brought into the conveying region (F) of a second conveying device. The latter has individually controllable grippers which are arranged at regular intervals, circulate along a closed path, seize the fold edges delivered by the sucker arrangement and convey away the printing products thus seized. By forming an intermediate stack, from which the printing products are then raised by the sucker arrangement at the desired rate and fed to the grippers, even imbricated formations (S) occurring with irregularities can be processed satisfactorily.

Buffer storage of printed products conveyed in scale formation on a conveyor belt (10) is brought about by buffer device (12.1, 12.2, 12.3 etc.), running in a conveying section with a speed which is lower than the speed of the conveyor belt (10) and having a fixed reciprocal spacing and are switched by the printed products to be buffer stored into a state in which they decelerate the printed products and set same to the spacing of the buffer devices. The number of buffer devices on the conveying section is constant and the number of active buffer devices is a function of the number of printed products located on the conveying section provided for buffer storage. The buffer devices can be brake claws, which are arranged centrally between two parallel conveyor belts on a drag chain in such a way that in a lowered, inactive state they are lowered below the conveying surface of the belts, but in their non-lowered, active state project at least partly above the conveying plane. The brake claws are designed in such a way that they are switched by the printed products pulling them up from their lowered, inactive state into their non-lowered, active state.

A method and apparatus for adjusting the suction pressure drawn through a conveyor belt which conveys a stream of underlapping sheets to an alignment station where sheets are aligned prior to being fed to a sheet-processing machine. A source of high pressure is coupled to a low pressure suction chamber adjacent the alignment station when the final sheet in the stream reaches the alignment end. The high pressure source rapidly equalizes the pressure with the chamber, thus enabling easy lateral alignment of the final sheet in the stream which has no following underlapping sheets to otherwise block the suction pressure.

The device for feeding sheet stacks 26 has a guiding device 5, in which a plurality of endless guide belts 18, 19, which guide the sheet stack 26 to a motor-driven sheet feed device 8 arranged on a removal side of the sheet stack. The endless guide belts 18 are arranged in an essentially horizontal stack support surface 4. The essentially vertical, stack-side feed sections of the feed conveyer belts 35 of the sheet feed device 8 are subdivided by articulated rollers 38 of a horizontal articulated shaft 39 arranged in the upper third of the sheet stack 26 into a lower decollation section 33, which is sloped by more than 5.degree. and less than 30.degree. relative to the vertical line, and an upper, more highly sloped feed section 34. To achieve reliable decollation of sheets even in the case of sheets of paper carrying high electrostatic charge, an intermittent drive 75 is provided, which drives the sheet 26' lying on the decollation sections 33 of the feed conveyer belts 35 with pulse-like acceleration steps. In addition to or instead of this, the articulated rollers 38 may be eccentrically mounted on the articulated shaft 39 to cause the sheet stack 26 in contact with them to vibrate during rotation.

The first roll defines the nip of the sheet feeding apparatus, and each of the rolls includes a plurality of annular grooves. Upon rotation of the second roll, the rings may be moved with respect to the first roll, so that unworn portions of the rings may be moved to the nip.
