Abstract:
Improvement in devices for numeration, printing perforation and cutting in Offset sheet printing machines, characterized by the fact all operative structures, including the inking mechanism are combined in a structural unit, shiftable "as a drawer" between the printing machine's shoulders, to the extent necessary for the service of the same device, for performing the functions and respectively for performing the removal to the necessary extent for the service of the machine without the functions and all preparatory operation of the individual operations and of maintenance of the same machine and of the drawer. The invention comprises also the improved "as a drawer" unit as hereinbelow specified.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus is provided for printing games such as poker hands on two-piece frustoconical containers with four cards up and one down on the container sidewall and a hole card or draw card on the bottom of the container. The sidewalls are formed from blanks printed in a sequence by four, five, six and seven-around printing cylinders, all of which impress one card identity indicia on each printed cup blank on a strip of stock passed through the array of cylinders. A strip of bottom blanks each bearing a single card identity are printed in sequence by an eleven-around printing cylinder and the sidewall blanks and bottom blanks are assembled in the printed sequence to provide at least 4,620 cups all bearing poker hands with no two cups bearing identical hands. None of the card identity indicia on the several rolls is repeated. A total of thirty-three different indicia is used in the present method and apparatus.
Abstract:
A cutter blade receiving member having a slit therein for cooperating with the cutter device in a printer. The cutter blade receiving member is reduced in thickness in a portion above the slit so as to form a step on the side of the receiving member where the cutter blade of the cutter device enters the slit.
Abstract:
Sheet delivery for rotary printing machines having gripper bridges carried by revolving endless chains traveling along a chain path having a straight and ascending section merging with a section of the path extending horizontally across a delivery pile, includes means defining a sheet guide path having a curvilinear configuration spaced at a continuously varying distance from the endless chains and disposed below the straight and ascending section of the chain path.
Abstract:
Method for manufacture of business forms in which at least three superposed continuous business form webs are processed and thereafter separated for individual folding, all but one of the webs being shifted laterally into two-wide folders for zig-zag folding.
Abstract:
A method of preparing a personalized hard covered book having variable and non-variable printed copy which utilizes a computer to print at least the personalized portions of the text.
Abstract:
A method of forming a plurality of individual booklets, or the like, having removable insert members affixed thereto. The method includes severing at least one continuous web of printed paper along transversely spaced, elongate lines to form continuous ribbons; affixing a plurality of insert members to one surface of at least one of the continuous ribbons at spaced, longitudinal intervals; longitudinally folding a ribbon having insert members affixed thereto to form continuous multi-leaf booklets and transversely severing each continuous multi-leaf booklets to form a plurality of individual booklets, each containing at least one insert member. The method also includes severing more than one continuous web of printed paper into ribbons, and securing predetermined ribbons to each other to form sets of ribbon prior to the longitudinal folding and transverse severing operations. The apparatus for forming a plurality of booklets also forms a part of this invention.
Abstract:
A delivery mechanism for a single or double folder in which underneath each individual folder a pair of fan shafts are mounted to which fan paddles may be removably secured so that, if both folders of a double folder are in operation, one fan shaft of each pair is left without paddles and only the paddles on the other fan shafts receive the folded products from the associated folders and deposit them on separate conveyer belts, while when one folder of a double folder including the associated fan shafts is stopped and all webs are passed from the press to the other folder or when only one folder is provided, one half of the usual number of paddles of one fan is secured to each of the other pair of fan shafts but in a staggered relation to each other so that these fans will then alternately deposit the products upon one conveyer belt and then upon another adjacent conveyer belt.
Abstract:
A printing press, having a pair of shiftable cylinders, a paper feed, means for operating said press and a control system. Apparatus for counting the printed paper sheets, including an escapement mechanism directly connected to the cylinders and means for setting the ratchet for a predetermined number of indexes. The ratchet being connected to the control system to regulate the same on completion of the printing of a predetermined number of sheets.
Abstract:
Document feeding apparatus of the type wherein documents are fed forward from a supply station to a work station and returned to the supply station for either removal or a second cycle, the apparatus incorporating a movable catch tray for holding the documents at the supply station; a separator cooperable with the catch tray to maintain documents returning to the supply station segregated from other documents awaiting feeding, at least until the supply of other documents is used up; and a doorlike cover adapted to overlay the catch tray, and incorporating means to facilitate proper positioning of the returning documents in the catch tray.
