Abstract: A method for growing a seedling, the method includes specifying a growth-contributing fungus contributable to growth of a target plant to be grown artificially, isolating the growth-contributing fungus, culturing the isolated growth-contributing fungus to obtain an inoculum, growing the inoculum with a growth substrate to obtain a microorganism bed, and rooting and growing the target plant in compost including the microorganism bed. In the specifying a growth-contributing fungus contributable to growth of a target plant to be grown artificially, the growth-contributing fungus is an indigenous nonmycorrhizal filamentous fungus to inhabit a planting site in which the target plant is to be planted or a neighborhood of the planting site and to live in symbiosis with a plant without a mycorrhiza.

Abstract: The present invention provides a Dendrobium officinale (D. officinale) endophytic fungus strain and an extracellular polysaccharide produced thereby as well as an extraction method and application of the extracellular polysaccharide. The extraction process of the extracellular polysaccharide includes: activating a strain; culturing seed liquid; fermenting and culturing; filtering the fermented liquid under vacuum; concentrated the filtrate under vacuum; conducting alcohol precipitation on the concentrated liquid; precipitating and centrifuging; dialyzing after dissolving the precipitates in water; freezing and drying the dialysate under vacuum; and obtaining the extracellular polysaccharide. The D. officinale endophytic fungus strain belongs to Fusarium solani, and the extracellular polysaccharide produced thereby has inhibitory effects on Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella ssp., and Bacillus subtilis.

Abstract: Novel strains of the insect-pathogenic fungus, Metarhizium var. anisopliae fungal strain BNL 101 deposited in the CABI UK Centre, United Kingdom, having ICI CC Number 506833; or BNL 102 deposited in the CABI UK Centre, United Kingdom, having ICI CC Number 506834; or a culture having the identifying characteristics thereof, are disclosed. The present invention also discloses methods of using the fungal strains, and spores obtained therefrom, to control insects, and provides a natural pest control preparation. The preparations and compositions comprise several unique and desirable features, such as a wide host range or alternatively a selective host range, and a consistent pathogenicity. The preparations and compositions have a high virulence (insecticidal activity), that is 2 times to 3 times, or greater, mor virulent (insecticidal) than compositions or preparations that do not contain the preparation or composition, and especially that do not contain the BNL 101 or BNL 102 fungal strain, or spores therefrom. The fungal strains also provide for a high spore yield in production, and possess a high stability in the field.
