Abstract:
A fitting for coupling a service line to a polyethylene fluid distribution pipe such as a water main or a gas main includes a stub length of polyethylene pipe that serves as a base for attaching a corporation stop valve. The cross section of the open base end is machined to match the curvature of the outside surface of the main pipe and then fused into the sidewall of the main. The corporation stop valve can then be used for hot tapping polyethylene mains.
Abstract:
A method of hot tapping a pipeline includes the step of providing a valve having a valve body, a bonnet on the valve body, and means in the form of an isolating mechanism for enabling a user to seal the valve body from the bonnet for purposes of removing the bonnet with the valve in use. The method proceeds by (i) connecting the valve body to a line to be tapped and a hot tapping machine to the valve body; (ii) hot tapping the line through the valve body with the valve open, withdrawing the hot tapping machine from the valve body, closing the valve, removing the hot tapping machine, and connecting a desired downstream component; (iii) sealing the valve body from the bonnet with the isolating mechanism; and (iv) removing the bonnet from the valve body. In line with the above, a valve for hot tapping a line includes a valve body, a movable gate, a removable bonnet with a gate actuating mechanism, and a bonnet isolating mechanism for enabling a user to seal the valve body from the bonnet for purposes of removing the bonnet.
Abstract:
In a double valve (4) for transportable containers (1) for distribution a liquid under pressure of a gas, a safety arrangement is adapted for preventing a person, who tries to dismount a valve while there is an over-pressure in the container, to be injured. The double valve has a housing (5a,5b) for detachable fixing the valve in a vertically mounted neck ring (2) in the container. In the housing a displaceable riser pipe (8), acted on by a pressure spring (10), is mounted having an elastomere valve ring (9) partly for closing a gas passage between the housing and the valve ring, partly a liquid passage between the opening in this and a valve plug (13) loaded by a second pressure spring in the riser pipe. Furthermore in the housing under the neck ring there is a catch (17) with a vertically, downwardly converging wedge (19) the narrow edge (21) of which is tiltingly supported by the lower edge (27) of a window (15) in the wall of the housing (5b). The catch comprises a spring (24) which is leaning against the inner side of the wall with an elastic force urging the wider edge (20) of the wedge to protrude through the window. The double valve can without any risk be dismounted by means of a special spanner (31) and a de-activation rod (32). The safety arrangement has a simple construction and is very reliable.
Abstract:
This process permits an inlet/outlet to be established in a liquid filled tank using an underwater diver without the necessity of draining or otherwise putting the tank out of service. The diver enters the tank at the top and places a dry pot against about the center of the back of the manhole cover. A hole is drilled in the manhole cover and a pipe nipple inserted through the hole. A flange is provided on the pipe nipple and if a gasket is not used, it is welded completely around to prevent leakage. A cap or valve is screwed onto the pipe nipple on the outside and the dry pot is removed. Various other ways of placing the pipe nipple through the wall are described. The installed nipple can be used by attaching a suction hose thereto for the purpose of removing sediments from the floor of the tank. If desired a smaller inlet/outlet installed in this manner is used to supply air for a diver working on the inside of the tank.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for angularly drilling during a tapping procedure into a pressurized multiple strings of coaxially situated tubulars for wells and/or platforms which have overturned wherein the tapping occurs underwater via a diver or remotely operated vehicle.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for tapping into a pressurized multiple strings of coaxially situated tubulars for wells and/or platforms which have overturned wherein the tapping occurs underwater via a diver or remotely operated vehicle. The assembly includes a tapping tool connectable to the tubular via a saddle connection and an adjustable tapping clamp with adjustable support/locking feet, compression plate with view ports, and angularly adjustable hot tapping system, along with a drill/saw system.
Abstract:
Saddle tap assemblies comprising internal collars and external saddle taps are disclosed. A saddle tap assembly may include an external slip tap, internal tap collar, a duct section, and adhesive. The external slip tap and the internal tap collar may each have a flange. The flanges may be curved. The flange of the internal collar may have a sheared portion permitting the flange of the internal collar to pass through an opening in a section of duct. The installation of saddle tap assemblies according to embodiments of the present invention is more cost-effective and less time consuming than conventional methods. Moreover, the seals and bonds formed using embodiments of the present invention provide for several layers of chemical protection and structural stiffening wherever the saddle tap assemblies are located.
