Abstract: The present invention provides wideband millimeter-wave SIW-fed FPC filtering antenna comprising a partially reflecting surface (PRS) and a filtering source configured to radiate a millimeter-wavelength electromagnetic wave. The filtering source comprises a conductive reflecting plane configured to work with the PRS to form a Fabry-Perot cavity; radiating elements including a pair of shorted radiating patches electrically connected to a ground plane through a pair of probes; and a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) feeding structure coupled to the pair of radiating patches through a coupling aperture. The SIW-fed FPC filtering antenna has the advantages of wider bandwidth, higher directivity/gain, reduced structural complexity, compact size and appropriate feeding type for millimeter-wave applications.

Abstract: Integrated antenna structures described herein may include planar inverted-F antennas (PIFAs) integrated with artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) metamaterials. The integrated metamaterial operatively coupled with the PIFA may function as an artificial magnetic reflector, sending all the energy radiated upwards, and thereby changing the original omnidirectional radiation pattern of the PIFA to a directional radiation pattern. The integrated antenna structures that include PIFAs and metamaterials may maintain a smaller form factor as compared to similar directional antennas, while exhibiting a suitable performance in terms of radiation efficiency, radiation pattern and impedance bandwidth.

Abstract: An antenna assembly includes a first active antenna element and a second active antenna element, each of which may be a dipole. A first set of independently-switchable radio-frequency reflectors are positioned around at least the first active antenna element. These first switchable radio-frequency reflectors may also be positioned around the second active antenna element. Alternatively, a second set of independently-switchable radio-frequency reflectors may be positioned around the second active antenna element. The switchable reflectors enable controlled perturbation of the communication channel between the antenna assembly and a remote communications node, enabling securely encrypted communications.

Abstract: Network hardware devices organized in a Wireless mesh network (WMN) in which the network hardware devices cooperate in distribution of content files to client consumption devices in an environment of limited connectivity to broadband Internet infrastructure are described. One mesh network device includes a micro controller, RF radios, and antenna switching circuitry. The antenna switching circuitry, in response to the control signals from a micro controller, selectively couples individual ones of a first set of antennas to individual channels of the set of RF radios to communicate content data with client consumption devices and selectively couples individual ones of a second set of antennas to other individual channels of the set of RF radios to communicate content data with other mesh network devices in a WMN.
