摘要:
A phosphor screen which has an optical fiber plate formed of a number of bundled single optical fibers, each of which fibers consists essentially of a cylindrical core and a clad surrounding the curved peripheral wall of the core and a phosphor layer formed on one surface of the optical fiber plate, characterized in that the cylindrical core on the other surface of the optical fiber plate is removed, to provide a depression of a depth of at least 1 .mu.m, thereby producing an image having high contrast.

A luminescent screen consisting of one self-supporting monocrystalline body and having a luminescent surface layer with V-shaped grooves. Such screens may be exposed to radiation having a larger energy than was usual so far with phosphor screens and have a very large luminous efficiency. In addition the resolving power is very large since there are no particles with limiting dimensions. Such screens may be used for displaying very bright pictures suitable for projection on a projection screen.
摘要:
A high contrast cathode ray tube which incorporates a phosphor material responsive to electronic bombardment and generates ultraviolet radiations in response thereto and in which the ultraviolet phosphor is provided on the inner surface of a fiber optic window. Positioned on the outer surface of the fiber optic faceplate is an ultraviolet transmitting, visible absorbing filter with an organic phosphor emitting visible light in response to ultraviolet excitation and a visible transmitting, ultraviolet absorbing filter provided on the outer surface of the organic phosphor.

A method that modifies the composition of a region adjacent the surface of an ion conducting glass body comprises applying an electric field, at an elevated temperature, between opposite surfaces of the glass body to remove substantially all monovalent and most divalent ions from the region. A desired ion-depleted region occurs adjacent the anode-contacted surface of the glass body if the anode is a blocking electrode of relatively nonreactive material with the components of the glass body. A preferred blocking anode is a porous layer of colloidal particles of graphite. A particulate graphite anode allows oxygen evolving from the glass to escape therethrough, or combine with the evolving oxygen to produce easily removable gaseous byproducts, and does not supply cations to the glass body.

A planar member such as a phosphor coated fiber optic plate, having a thermal coefficient of expansion that is incompatible with that of a cathode ray tube faceplate, is accurately supported a precise distance from the inner surface of the faceplate by a plurality of glass posts having slots in which the peripheral portion of the fiber optic plate is disposed. A spring contact member affixed to at least one glass post applies a holding force to the fiber optic plate and makes electrical contact between the plate and a conductive coating on the inside of the tube envelope.

A faceplate of a color cathode ray tube has a black enamel glass with holes interspaced therethrough. Color phosphor areas are positioned within the holes in the black enamel glass.

A projection picture tube comprises a vacuum vessel, an anode support member received in said vessel, a fluorescent film coated on the upper surface of said anode member and an electron gun assembly for ejecting electron beams on said fluorescent film, said anode member consisting of a hollow metal body through which a cooling fluid is caused to flow.
