The composition can be polymerized or pyrolyzed, forming transition metal nanoparticles homogeneously dispersed in a thermoset or carbon composition. The size of the nanoparticles can be controlled by manipulating the number and arrangement of functional groups in the composition and by changing the conditions of the polymerization or pyrolysis. Novel class of organoboron thermosetting polymer and ceramics that are fod from an organoboron polymer having a backbone with a repeating of at least one alkynyl group, at least one silyl group, at least one boranyl group, optionally at least one siloxyl group, and optionally an aryldisilyl group. The boron containing units in and the silicon containing units can be arranged in either random occurrences between each other or in the form of interdispersed block-type structures of each unit. The thermosetting polymers are useful as high temperature, oxidatively stable thermosetting plastics and for microelectronic applications.
