The data storage system includes a cartridge receptacle adapted to electrically and mechanically engage a removable data cartridge. The cartridge receptacle includes a second electrical connector and a conductive member. The second electrical connector is adapted to electrically engage a first electrical connector of the removable data cartridge. The conductive member is configured to engage a resistive portion of the removable data cartridge before the first and second electrical connectors engage. The conductive member is coupled to a ground of the cartridge receptacle.
Abstract:
Systems and method for tracking measurements from a wireless measurement device are provided. A tracking server is in communication with wireless measurement devices deployed in the field and periodically receives usage reports from the measurement devices to ensure timely measurements by the user and to monitor usage of the measurement devices to ensure compliance. The wireless measurement device is configured to measure one or more analyte levels or concentrations, presence, and/or absence of one or more analytes of the user. The fact of the measurement and the results of the measurement are provided to the tracking server via a wireless communication network. The tracking server stores the information for historical tracking of measurement data usage data. The tracking server may send alerts to a predetermined list of people to notify them when the user is not using the measurement device or when the number of authorized uses needs to be replenished.
Abstract:
A hospital layout comprising a plurality of adjacent OR/intervention rooms (46, 48) uniquely configured and equipped to perform surgical and other interventional procedures, with adjacent intubation rooms (52) configured and equipped to prepare patients for procedures to occur in the OR/intervention rooms and at least one extubation room (54) adjacent the OR/intervention rooms, configured and equipped to post-intervention awaken and extubate patients. A plurality of universal patient rooms (40) are located adjacent the OR/intervention rooms and universal patient rooms, and are configured and equipped to admit patients for surgery/intervention, prepare patients for surgery/intervention, allow patients to recover post-intervention, and discharge patients post-recovery.
Abstract:
A circularizated semiconductor laser diode (CSLD), such as for example a vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) may be used for optical measurements. The CSLD may be used in a cell density probe to perform cell density determination and/or turbidity determination, such as in a biotech, fermentation, or other optical absorbance application. The cell density probe may comprise a probe tip section made from a polytetrafluoroethylene material, which provides sealability, ease of manufacture, durability, cleanability, optical semi-transparency at visible and near infrared wavelengths, and other advantages. The probe tip advantageously provides an optical gap that allows for in situ measurements of optical measurements including but not limited to absorbance, scattering, and fluorescence.
Abstract:
A spacecraft with a reaction wheel system can be autonomously safed by setting the solar wings to continuous tracking, determining a slew rate vector based on the total angular momentum, and slewing the spacecraft using the slew rate vector until commanded to stop autonomous safing. When the total angular momentum of the spacecraft to large to be handled by rotisserie, then the spacecraft is reoriented to align a suitable rotation vector with the system momentum. In a typical application, the spacecraft has a reaction wheel assembly with four wheels arranged to form a right regular pyramid. Two reaction wheels on opposite edges of the pyramid form a first pair and the two remaining reaction wheels forming a second pair. The slew axis of rotation is found by determining as a selected pair the first pair if either reaction wheel in the second pair is inoperative, otherwise determining as the selected pair the second pair and determining as the slew axis of rotation the normalized projection of the axes of rotation of the selected pair onto the base. The slew direction is determined by the sign of the total angular momentum component along the slew axis of rotation.
Abstract:
Adhesive material from the fimbriae (esp. Type 1) of bacteria or synthetic analogues or fragments thereof is combined with a drug to provide for attachment to the gut of a mammal, thereby prolonging the transit time of the drug through the gut. The 28 kDa polypeptide from E. coli Type 1 fimbriae is the preferred adhesive material (“adhesin”). The drug is presented in a carrier such as albumin, a polylactide/glycolide copolymer or alginate microcapsules. The adhesin may be incorporated in the carrier during preparation thereof, adsorbed onto the carrier after preparation, or covalently linked thereto, for example with carbodiimide.
Abstract:
A paper web is monitored for measurement and manufacturing control by a stationary web sensor extending across the entire web which is raster scanned by the motion of the web. Massive amounts of data are processed by a look up table memory addressed by digitized sensor data and the output from a reference memory containing element specific information. The lookup table is loaded with data to define a characteristic or property of the web corresponding to digitized sensor data interpreted in view of element specific data from the reference memory. Rapidly processed data is stored in a memory in a form facilitating its display and interpretation by an operator of the web manufacturing machine and also control of the machine. By controlling operation of the machine, uniformity of the web is substantially improved and, by taking the measurements closely adjacent the initial processing end of the web, corrections of nonuniformity in the web are quickly effected. To measure and control absolute characteristics and properties of the web, a second, preferably stationary, sensor adjacent the finished end of the web monitors the web adjacent a takeup reel. Alternately, for basis weight measurement and control, the weight of the takeup reel is monitored and combined with the web width and machine operating speed to determine an absolute web basis weight. Thus, uniformity of the web and absolute values of characteristics and properties of the web can be measured and controlled.
