    摘要: In an organic electroluminescence display device (30) comprising an organic EL element (26) having a structure wherein an organic luminescent medium (24) is sandwiched between a top electrode (20) and a bottom electrode (22), and a driving circuit (14) for driving the organic EL element (26), the organic luminescent medium (24) comprises a host compound and a triplet-related luminous compound and the driving circuit (14) applies a electric pulse voltage or pulse current having a frequency of 30 Hz or more and a duty ratio of 1/5 or less. In this way, it is possible to provide an organic EL display device which consumes a low electric power and has a long luminous life span, and a method for driving the same.

    摘要: Transparent, organic EL devices comprising an positive electrode, a negative electrode and an organic layer including an organic light-emitting layer as sandwiched between the two electrodes, in which the negative electrode is comprised of an electron injection electrode layer and an amorphous transparent conductive film, and the electron injection electrode layer is adjacent to the organic layer, or in which the negative electrode is comprised of an electron injection electrode layer, a transparent conductive film and a thin metal film having a specific resistance of not larger than 1×10−5 &OHgr;·cm, as laminated in that order with the electron injection electrode layer being adjacent to the organic layer, and a thin transparent film is formed outside the negative electrode. Preferably, the transparent conductive film is an amorphous one. The devices have a negative electrode with low resistance and high transparency, and have high luminous efficiency and good durability (wet heat resistance). The light emission can be taken out through the side of the negative electrode of the devices. The devices are usable for high-resolution display.

The organic electroluminescent element 1 which is equipped, between a lower electrode 3 and a counter eletrode 4 each on a substrate 2, with an intervening organic layer 5 comprising a light-emitting layer, comprises an inter-insulator film 6 having a coefficient of water absorption of at most 0.1% in a non-light-emitting element portion; step portions 9 in the inter-insulator layer 6 which define the boundary between a light-emitting element portion and a non-light-emitting element portion and which comprise rising parts almost perpendicular to the surface of the lower electrode 3; and a sealing plate or a sealing lid 7 which is placed over the inter-insulator layer 6 and which is attached to the substrate 2 via an adhesive layer 8.
