Abstract: In one embodiment, a data processing method comprises obtaining one or more first photoplethysmography (PPG) signals based on one or more first light sources that are configured to emit light having a first light wavelength corresponding to a green light wavelength; obtaining one or more second PPG signals based on one or more second light sources that are configured to emit light having a second light wavelength corresponding to a red light wavelength, one or more of the first light sources and one or more of the second light sources being co-located; generating an estimated heart rate value based on one or more of the first PPG signals and the second PPG signals; and causing the estimated heart rate value to be displayed via a user interface on a client device.

Additionally, techniques, systems, and apparatuses are discussed herein for providing power-conserving techniques and systems for efficiently utilizing a GPS receiver are described. The positional fix frequency of the GPS receiver may, according to some implementations, be modified or adjusted between various levels according to data from one or more non-GPS sensors. Such non-GPS sensors may include, for example, ambient light intensity or spectrum sensors, accelerometers, gyroscopes, magnetometers, heart rate sensors, galvanic skin response sensors, infrared sensors, etc.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing biofeedback during a meditation exercise are disclosed. In one aspect, the wearable device includes one or more biometric sensors and a user interface. The method may involve prompting the user, via the user interface, to perform a meditation exercise, the meditation exercise being associated with a target physiological metric related to the physiology of the user. The method may involve measuring, based on output of at least one of the one or more biometric sensors, a physiological metric of the user during the meditation exercise. The method may involve determining a performance score indicating the user's performance during the meditation exercise based on comparing the measured physiological metric with the target physiological metric. The method may involve providing, via the user interface, based on the performance score, feedback information indicative of the user's performance during the meditation exercise.

Abstract: Techniques for automatic tracking of user data for exercises are disclosed. In one aspect, a method of operating a wearable device may involve determining, based on output of one or more biometric sensors, that a user of the wearable device has started an exercise and identifying a type of the exercise that the user has started based on comparing the output of the one or more biometric sensors to defined sensor data for a plurality of exercise types. The method may further include adjusting a global positioning system (GPS) receiver in response to determining the start of the exercise and based on the type of the exercise.

Abstract: A wearable computing device includes an electronic display with a configurable brightness level setting, a physiological metric sensor system including a light source configured to direct light into tissue of a user wearing the wearable computing device and a light detector configured to detect light from the light source that reflects back from the user. The device may further include control circuitry configured to activate the light source during a first period, generate a first light detector signal indicating a first amount of light detected by the light detector during the first period, deactivate the light source during a second period, generate a second light detector signal indicating a second amount of light detected by the light detector during the second period, generate a physiological metric based at least in part on the first light detector signal and the second light detector signal, and modify the configurable brightness level setting based on the second light detector signal.

Abstract: Aspects of generating movement measures that quantify motion data samples generated by a wearable electronic device are discussed herein. For example, in one aspect, an embodiment may obtain motion data samples generated by the set of motion sensors in a wearable electronic device. The wearable electronic device may then generate a first movement measure based on a quantification of the first set of motion data samples. The wearable electronic device may also generate a second movement measure based on a quantification of the second set of the motion data samples. The wearable electronic device may then cause the non-transitory machine readable storage medium to store the first movement measure and the second movement measure as time series data.

Abstract: A biometric monitoring device is used to determine a user's heart rate by using a heartbeat waveform sensor and a motion detecting sensor. In some embodiments, the device collects collecting concurrent output data from the heartbeat waveform sensor and output data from the motion detecting sensor, detects a periodic component of the output data from the motion detecting sensor, and uses the periodic component of the output data from the motion detecting sensor to remove a corresponding periodic component from the output data from the heartbeat waveform sensor. From this result, the device may determine and present the user's heart rate.
