Abstract:
A control system for a rail vehicle system including a lead powered unit and a remote powered unit is provided. The system includes a user interface, a master isolation module and a slave controller. The user interface is disposed in the lead powered unit and is configured to receive an isolation command to turn on or off the remote powered unit. The master isolation module is configured to receive the isolation command from the user interface and to communicate an instruction based on the isolation command. The slave controller is configured to receive the instruction from the master isolation module. The slave controller causes the remote powered unit to supply tractive force to propel the rail vehicle system when the instruction directs the slave controller to turn on the remote powered unit. The slave controller causes the remote powered unit to withhold the tractive force when the instruction directs the slave controller to turn off the remote powered unit.
Abstract:
Erectable platforms having microwave susceptors thereon are provided, where the platforms are convertible between a collapsed configuration and an erected configuration to save costs on packaging, storage, and shipping while still providing the benefits of elevated microwave heating. When the platforms are converted to the erected configurations, mechanisms are provided to maintain the platforms in the erected configuration.
Abstract:
A single place helicopter comprising a lower airframe and an upper airframe, having a rotor shaft attached thereto, rotor blades, and a hub on said rotor shaft with means to change blade pitch for vertical flight. The upper airframe comprising a rotor system, engine, tail boom and tail rotor tilt as one unit with the pilot forward, rearward and in a lateral attitude for directional flight control by means of a hinged gimbal joint or block fastened between the vertical tubes on the lower airframe that connect the upper and lower airframes. By allowing the pilot to move with the rotor system, this configuration combines weight and CG manipulation in a tilt rotor design that eliminates the angular differences between advancing and retreating rotor blades during lateral flight and allows for a simplified human interface flight control system in a single-main-tilt rotor helicopter.
Abstract:
A system for balancing a plurality of battery pack system modules connected in series comprising: a plurality of battery pack system modules, wherein a high charge module of the plurality of battery pack system modules has a charge greater than a that of other modules. At least one zener diode connected in series with a current limiting resistor is connected in parallel to the plurality of battery pack system modules. A power source is in communication with a disconnect circuit of at least one of the battery pack system modules. The disconnect circuit is actuated when the battery pack system module reaches a predetermined state of charge. The zener diode enables current from the power source to bypass charged battery pack system modules to charge other battery pack system modules.
Abstract:
In a first exemplary embodiment of the present invention, an automated, computerized method is provided for processing an image. According to a feature of the present invention, the method comprises the steps of providing an image file depicting an image, in a computer memory, forming a set of selectively varied representations of the image file and performing an image segregation operation on at least one preselected representation of the image of the image file, to generate intrinsic images corresponding to the image. According to a feature of the exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the selectively varied representations comprise multi-resolution representations such as a scale-spaced pyramid of representations. In a further feature of the exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the intrinsic images comprise a material image and an illumination image.
Abstract:
A cooling arrangement for a gas turbine engine includes: (a) a turbine nozzle having: (i) spaced-apart arcuate inner and outer bands; and (ii) a hollow, airfoil-shaped turbine vane extending between the inner and outer bands, the vane disposed in a primary flowpath of the engine; (b) a supporting structure coupled to the outer band such that an outer band cavity is defined between the outer band and the stationary structure; (c) a first conduit passing through the outer band cavity and communicating with the interior of the vane, the first conduit coupled to a first source of cooling air within the engine; and (d) a second conduit communicating with the outer band cavity, the second conduit coupled to a second source of cooling air within the engine.
Abstract:
A method for dynamically compensating for a faulty pixel in a scan line of a scanner having an image sensor with a plurality of sensor pixels includes generating digitized scan data; processing the digitized scan data to compensate for any faulty pixels of the plurality of sensor pixels to form compensated scan data; processing the compensated scan data to apply offset and gain correction to the compensated scan data to form calibrated scan data; processing the calibrated scan data to adjust the calibrated scan data to compensate for human visual perception to form final scan data; and storing the final scan data in a scanner image memory.
Abstract:
A control scheme is disclosed for performing both an adaption routine and carbon canister purging. In adaption, parameters for estimating air-fuel ratio from flow sensors and actuators are adjusted against an air-fuel ratio under closed-loop control using an EGO sensor. The two processes cannot run simultaneously. In vehicles in which the engine is operating from the time of key on until key off, the adaption occurs shortly after starting and then periodically thereafter. In vehicles in which the engine is turned on and off frequently such as with HEVs, the adaption routine may be run every time the engine is turned on, which is more frequent than necessary and doesn't allow enough time for purging. According to the disclosed control scheme, the time since last adaption and time in adaption is saved when the engine is turned off so that the adaption routine is conducted only when needed.
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and computer-readable media for directing funds to philanthropic organizations are provided. An advertisement server system includes advertisement servers, databases, and client devices. Publishers register with advertisement servers to select philanthropic organizations and to customize advertisement placeholders that are rendered on sites web pages associated with the publishers. The databases store records and accounts for the publishers and philanthropic organizations. The client devices interact with the web pages associated with the publishers. And based on the level of interaction by the client devices with an advertisement placeholder, the philanthropic organization that is linked to the advertisement placeholder is directly provided with a financial donation from the advertisement server system listing the publisher as a donor.
