摘要:
In a system and a method for profiling a digital-image input device, profiling of the digital-image input device is performed based at least on an image of a color chart and an estimated illumination of the color chart generated by comparing illumination of device-dependent coordinate values for the image of the color chart with illumination of device-independent coordinate values of the color chart. Because the estimated illumination of the color chart is performed on data pertaining to the color chart, the present invention may generate a profile without reference to data pertaining to scenery in the image outside of the color chart. Consequently, the present invention may generate a profile irrespective of the relative exposure of the color chart with respect to other scenery in the image.

A method for compensating for effects of illumination when comparing soft proofs to hard copy proofs viewed under non-standard illumination comprises adjusting a standard illumination display profile until estimates of device independent colors produced by the display based on the adjusted profile match the colors corresponding to the non-standard illumination within a predefined tolerance.

A method for compensating for effects of illumination when comparing soft proofs to hard copy proofs viewed under non-standard illumination comprises obtaining (110), for a set of print colors, device-independent color data corresponding to the standard illumination and obtaining (120) the corresponding data for the non-standard illumination. The method further comprises estimating (130) first device independent color data to be measured on a display for each color when rendering the set of print colors to the display using the device-independent color data corresponding to the standard illumination and a display profile constructed from color data corresponding to the display, estimating (140) second device independent color data to be measured on the display if the display profile is adjusted, calculating (150) differences between the second device-independent color data and the device-independent color data for the print colors corresponding to the standard illumination and adjusting (160) the display profile to reduce differences.

In one embodiment a method includes obtaining a white point correction for a display device and obtaining a chromatic correction for the display device. The method may also include generating corrected color coordinates based on the white point and chromatic corrections. The method may ensure that images that appear on a display device in a soft proofing environment will be visually equivalent to images that appear on print media.

An imaging technique permits selective flattening of objects within page description files. The selective aspect of the flattening may pertain to the selection of particular objects to be flattened, selection of the degree of flattening to be applied to objects, or both. In some embodiments, selective flattening of objects in a page description file may be permitted based on an assessment of color correction efficacy. For example, the degree of flattening may be iteratively adjusted to achieve acceptable color correction results. Alternatively a user may be notified in the event acceptable color correction results have not been achieved. A color error between bitmap files generated from a color corrected, unflattened page description file and from a color corrected, flattened page description file may be measured. When the measured error between the two bitmaps exceeds a predetermined value, an amount of file flattening may be adjusted to reduce the measured error.

The invention is directed to various calibration techniques for calibrating an imagining device such as a display device, a printer, or a scanner. The techniques may involve characterizing the imaging device with a device model such that an average error between expected outputs determined from the device model and measured outputs of the imaging device is on the order of an expected error, and adjusting image rendering on the imaging device to achieve a target behavior. The invention can achieve a balance between analytical behavior of the imaging device and measured output. In this manner, adjustments to image rendering may be more likely to improve color accuracy and less likely to overcompensate for errors that are expected.

An apparatus and method for calibrating a multi-color imaging system are provided. The multi-color imaging system is capable of applying different colorants to a substrate based on a plurality of input color values. The input color values control amounts of the colorants to be applied to the substrate by the imaging system. A subset of the input color values is selected and used to control the imaging system to apply one or more of the different colorants to the substrate, thereby forming a plurality of different color patches on the substrate. The subset of input color values is selected such that one of more of the different color patches is formed by application of a combination of at least two of the different colorants to the substrate. Color values are measured for each of the different color patches, and compared to reference color values, representing a calibrated condition of the imaging system. An error value is calculated. The error value represents a deviation of the measured color values from the reference color values. The input color values for each colorant then are independently adjusted to reduce the error value to a predetermined degree.
