    摘要: A membrane and the method of making the same is disclosed for use with glucose analyzers to detect the level of glucose in liquid mediums such as whole blood. The membrane comprises a thin base wafer of a hydrophobic fluorocarbon material such as polytetrafluoroethylene (TEFLON). The wafer is initially etched by removing surface fluorides to produce a hydrophilic surface and is then contacted with a mixed reagent formed by combining in a volume ratio of about 1:1:1 about 4% paraformaldehyde in water, about 5% bovine serum albumin in water and about 10% glucose oxidase in water. The resultant membrane contains glucose oxidase covalently bonded to the surface of the base wafer.

    摘要: The temperature of a product which is being chilled in a blender by introducing carbon dioxide in solid and gaseous form into the blender is controlled by sensing the power drawn by the drive motor coupled to the impeller. The power drawn by the motor is sensed and analyzed and, upon reaching a predetermined value, the introduction of CO.sub.2 into the blender is terminated. As the product is chilled by contact with CO.sub.2 in the blender, the viscosity of the product will increase, which in turn, increases the power drawn by the motor. Variations in line voltage supplied to the motor and changes of the initial temperature of the product being chilled do not affect the final temperature to which the product may be accurately chilled.

    摘要: Tobacco impregnated with solid carbon dioxide is heated in a chamber to expand the same by sublimation of solid CO.sub.2 and expulsion of CO.sub.2 gas from the tobacco. The expanded tobacco is separated from the internal atmosphere of the expansion device and the tobacco is discharged through an outlet through which gas flows are substantially precluded. The evolved CO.sub.2 gas and other volatile components are removed from the chamber and a portion of the removed gas is heated and returned to the chamber as the expansion medium. The necessity for external steam is avoided as an atmosphere of high thermal diffusivity is maintained in the expansion chamber by precluding the entry of ambient air.

    摘要: An antidisconnect device is provided to prevent the inadvertent separation of medical fittings or connectors normally provided on the external end of a patient connected medical device such as an endotracheal or tracheostomy tube. The antidisconnect device basically comprises an annular ring having an internal diameter adapted to slip in close engagement over the normal outside diameter of the medical tubing. When assembled, the medical tubing is forced onto the tapered endotracheal tube connector thus distorting and enlarging the outside diameter of the medical tubing to a diameter larger than the internal diameter of the antidisconnect device. The antidisconnect device can then be moved toward the endotracheal tube tapered connector and can be forcefully held in position against the expanded diameter of the medical tubing. A strap extends from the annular ring to encircle any fitting or connector extending from the medical tubing to the patient and the distal end of the strap is affixed to the annular ring. Thus, any connector or fitting is encircled by the strap and disengagement by loosening of the tapered connections is prevented.

    摘要: Improved nebulizing apparatus is disclosed for generating a heated liquid-dispensed-in-gas mist for administration to a patient undergoing aerosol therapy. The apparatus includes a novel fastening means for attaching a heater unit to the underside of a reservoir containing the liquid. The heater unit is easily attached and detached and yet enables good heat conductivity for heating the liquid within the interior of the reservoir. The bottom of the reservoir itself includes a concave heat conducting surface which, in operation, is in direct contact with the surface of the heater unit. The fastening means includes at least two draw clips which extend upwardly from the heater unit and which engage the reservoir to effect the desired fastening. By an adjustment of the draw clips with respect to the heater unit, the heat conducting surface of the reservoir can be forced out of its concavity to a flat, planar shape in good surface contact with the heater to enhance heat conductivity to liquid within the reservoir. The draw clips are held within stopping lugs on the reservoir to prevent rotation of the reservoir and thus preventing separation of the heat conducting surface from the remaining reservoir and accidental spillage of the hot liquid within the reservoir.

F. in a period of up to approximately 30 minutes before being molded for slicing at a temperature in the range of about 24.degree.-28.degree. F.

    摘要: A method is disclosed for making a cuff or balloon for use with an endotracheal tube by means of a cold parison blow molding process. The method may be utilized for large quantity production of such cuffs yet affords reliable control of the thickness throughout the cuff. In carrying out the method, a thermoplastic or other elastomeric tube of predetermined dimensions and elasticity is prestretched a predetermined amount in the longitudinal direction. The tube is positioned within a hollow mold or, for quantity production in a series of such molds, having the mold internal configuration in the general shape of the desired end balloon form. The mold or molds are vented to atmosphere. Pressure is applied to the interior of the tube and such predetermined pressure is retained within the tube. The tube and mold(s) are then heated such that the tube softens and expands under the pressure to assume internal configuration of the mold(s). A cooling cycle follows such that the tubing takes on a new memory in the expanded state. The expanded tube, now in the shape of the desired end cuff or balloon is removed from the mold and can then be assembled into the final product endotracheal tube by known means.
