    Abstract: Provided is a strain wave gear speed reducer which can improve both load torque performance and productivity, a method for manufacturing a strain wave gear speed reducer, and an actuator for link mechanism for internal combustion engine. A strain wave gear speed reducer includes; a flexible external gear having a plurality of external teeth each of which has a straight tooth profile; a rigid internal gear disposed on an outer periphery of the flexible external gear, the number of internal teeth of the rigid internal gear being greater than the number of the external teeth, the internal tooth having a straight tooth profile, and a tooth top of the internal tooth having a shape which matches or overlaps with a movement envelope of the external tooth as viewed from a direction of an axis of rotation of the flexible external gear; and a wave motion generator configured to cause the flexible external gear to be deflected in a radial direction so as to be partially engaged with the rigid internal gear, the wave motion generator being configured to rotate about an axis of rotation, thus causing an engagement portion to move in a circumferential direction.

    Abstract: An optimized harmonic drive (“OHD”) is disclosed. The OHD includes a wave generator, a flex spline, and a circular rigid spline. The wave generator includes a wave generator contour that minimizes a velocity profile of the wave generator during a high load condition. The flex spline is attached to the wave generator and the circular rigid spline is mechanically engaged to the flex spline. The flex spline includes a plurality of flex spline teeth and the circular rigid spline includes a plurality of rigid spline teeth. The plurality of rigid spline teeth is greater than the plurality of flex spline teeth and the high load condition exists when the rigid spline teeth of the plurality of rigid spline teeth are fully engaged with flex spline teeth of the plurality of flex spline teeth.

    Abstract: A bevel gear set and a method of manufacturing the same are provided. The bevel gear set may include a first bevel gear and a second bevel gear. The first and second bevel gears may be spiral bevel gears or hypoid spiral bevel gears. The first and second bevel gears may each have a gear tooth surface having a plurality of teeth formed thereon, such that the teeth of the first bevel gear and the teeth of the second bevel gear are configured to engage in a meshing engagement. The teeth are machined onto the respective gear tooth surface via a face milling process. Each tooth includes a tooth top, a plurality of meshing surfaces, and at least one chamfer. The chamfer may be formed at an abutment edge disposed between the tooth top and a respective meshing surface via a brushing process directly following the machining of the teeth.

    Abstract: A worm drive includes a worm wheel having two spaced-apart outer rims defining an annular channel therebetween for receiving at least a portion of a worm screw. Each of the rims include a set of side teeth in the annular channel extending that are spaced apart from and face the set of teeth of the other rim. The two sets of teeth capture the worm screw and mesh with the screw thread of the worm screw such that the worm screw is engaged by the teeth only on spaced-apart locations on opposite sides of the worm screw. There are no resultant forces in an axial direction of the worm wheel during operation of the worm drive. Also, the worm screw and the worm wheel are self-aligning in the axial direction of the worm wheel.

    Abstract: A gear for transmitting power has a plurality of teeth, each having two tooth flanks for transmitting power to another gear.
