A ripple reference setting unit sets a reference value of the ripple current width. A frequency adjusting unit sets a control signal indicating a carrier frequency of the PWM control according to a ripple current width deviation. A carrier generation unit generates a carrier of the frequency based on the control signal. Thus, it is possible to realize feedback control of the carrier frequency for maintaining the ripple current width at an appropriate level.

In one example, a controlled predetermined power is provided to a load without requiring any feedback information from the load (i.e., without monitoring a load voltage and/or load current). In another example, a “feed-forward” power driver for an LED-based light source combines the functionality of a DC-DC converter and a light source controller, and is configured to control the intensity of light generated by the light source based on modulating the average power delivered to the light source in a given time period, without monitoring and/or regulating the voltage or current provided to the light source. In various examples, significantly streamlined circuits having fewer components, higher overall power efficiencies, and smaller space requirements are realized. Based on various power driver configurations, lighting apparatus incorporating one or more power drivers for one or more LED-based loads may be implemented, and multiple such lighting apparatus may be coupled together to form a lighting network in which operating power is efficiently provided throughout the network.

    摘要: A DC-DC buck converter comprises a high-side power FET having a current path connected in series between an input terminal and an inductor connected to an output terminal supplying an output current to a load. The converter further comprises a low-side power FET having a current path connected between a reference terminal and an interconnection node of the high-side power FET with the inductor. The converter has a pulse width modulation controller receiving a feedback signal from the output terminal and providing pulse width modulated signals, and a gate driver circuit that receives the pulse width modulated signals from the pulse width modulation controller and applies pulse width modulated drive signals to the gates of the power FETs. The gate driver circuit supplies the drive signals to the gates of the power FETs at a variable voltage level adjusted in response to at least the output current, minimizing the power dissipation of the gate driver circuit.

A controller controls the output current of the power supply as a function of the expected load current of the integrated circuit such that the power supply pre-emptively changes the output current.
