    摘要: A positive displacement rotary compressor is in circuit with a closable chamber disposed upstream of the compressor gas inlet and including a conduit operable to be placed in communication with the compressor discharge conduit. A control circuit is operable to sense compressor discharge pressure and at a predetermined pressure condition sequentially operate valves to shut off compressor inlet flow thereby evacuating the chamber and then placing the compressor discharge port in communication with the chamber. The compressor thereby runs unloaded or at idle at a greatly reduced inlet and discharge pressure. The operation of unloading the compressor may be controlled by sensing the chamber vacuum or by the use of time delay devices.

    摘要: The invention relates to a compressor comprising a plurality of compression stages for compressing gas; and two or more compressed gas heat exchangers for cooling compressed gas. Each of the two or more heat exchangers comprises a primary part for transferring the compressed gas through the heat exchanger; and one or more secondary parts for transferring coolant through the heat exchanger for recovering heat from the compressed gas. The compressor further comprises liquid to liquid heat exchangers for cooling of internal components of the compressor. A coolant circuitry conducts the coolant via the liquid to liquid heat exchanger and the two or more compressed gas heat exchangers; and a gas flow circuitry conducts gas via the compression stages and the compressed gas heat exchangers. The coolant circuitry is at least partly coupled in series so that the liquid to liquid heat exchanger is the first or the second in the series connection and at least two compressed gas heat exchangers are in series connection.

In various embodiments, a compressed gas storage system may include a plurality of stages to convert energy into compressed gas for storage, and then to recover that stored energy by gas expansion. In certain embodiments, a stage may comprise a reversible compressor/expander having a reciprocating piston. Pump designs for introducing liquid for heat exchange with the gas, are described. Gas flow valves featuring shroud and/or curtain portions, are also described.
