A metal adsorbent which can adsorb a wide variety of metals, can conform to various uses, and adsorbs metals in large amounts. Metal adsorbents in various forms, which have the property of highly efficiently adsorbing metals, are produced by (a) a method in which a polyamine polymer is chemically bonded and immobilized to a porous support, (b) a method in which a polyamine polymer is blended into a solution of a raw material for fibers and the mixture is formed into fibers by wet-spinning or dry spinning, and (c) a method in which a polyamine polymer is blended into a solution of a film-forming polymer and the mixture is formed into a film by a method of film formation from solution.

A method for forming a polycomponent fiber comprising a first, fiber-forming component comprising a polymer, and a second, component comprising an active ingredient that will selectively reduce or remove components of tobacco smoke, the method comprising the steps of: i. forming a dispersion, second solution or liquid comprising the second component; and ii. coextruding the first component and the dispersion, second solution or liquid through a jet or aperture to form a fiber comprising a first portion formed from the first component, and a second portion formed from the second component.

A method for producing ultra fine denier cellulose acetate fibers that entails spinning a spinning solution containing adequately high amounts of cellulose acetate in acetone wherein the cellulose acetate has a falling ball viscosity of 15 to 70 seconds wherein the spinning is conducted through spinnerettes having holes that have a diameter of less than 36 microns followed by drying at a temperature of about 50.degree. to 80.degree. C. at a draw ratio of 0.9 to 1.7.
