The disclosed method forms a zinc sleeve on an insulator pin by dipping the insulator pin in molten zinc at about 450.degree.-650.degree. C. to heat and wet the insulator pin with the molten zinc, setting the hot and wetted insulator pin in a die having an open-top cavity in such a manner that an annular open-top molding cavity is defined around the insulator, the die being at about 50.degree.-300.degree. C. when receiving the insulator pin, pouring molten zinc in the annular molding cavity through its open top, and solidifying the zinc thus poured.

A generator is disclosed herein for producing dendriform patterns or designs on a substrate workpiece employing an electrical device for charging a liquid as it flows between the oppositely charged electrodes over the substrate. The dendriform pattern, shape and growth is controlled by liquid composition, applied voltages, temperature devices, vibratory devices and the like. The electrodes are disposed in fixed spaced relationship over the surface of non-conductive substrate so that the liquid is charged assuming the characteristics of one polarity while a field of opposite polarity is present at the other electrode. The gravity flow of the charged liquid introduces new liquid to the electrode and the counter reacting force field creates the molecular array of dendriform patterns.

A system and method are provided to create porous surface coatings. In use, a surface material includes synthesized carbon-containing composite materials based on metallic particles and carbon particles, where the synthesized carbon-containing composite materials comprise a porosity characteristic, and satisfy at least one of: a heat transfer characteristic, a resistance to corrosion characteristic, or a non-ablative erosion characteristic. Additionally, the surface material includes a bonding layer disposed on a substrate to which the synthesized carbon-containing composite materials are bonded, and a surface layer comprising at least some of the synthesized carbon-containing composite materials, where a thermal characteristic of the surface layer is based on electron emissive cooling.
