A NEW PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF N-SUBSTITUTED DIBENZO(B,F)THIEPIN-10-METHYLAMINES AND CLOSELY RELATED COMPOUNDS IS PROVIDED, WHICH PROCESS CONSISTS ESSENTIALLY IN REDUCING CORRESPONDING AMIDES OF DIBENZO(B,F)THIEPIN10-CARBOXYLIC ACIDS WITH COMPLEX HYDRIDES. FURTHER ARE PROVIDED PROCESSES FOR THE PRODUCTION OF DIBENZO(B,F) THEIPIN-10-CARBOXYLIC ACIDS USED FOR THE PREPARATION OF SAID AMIDES. THE DIBENZO(B,F)THIEPIN-10-CARBOXYLIC ACIDS ARE NOVEL COMPOUNDS WHICH ALSO PROCESSES PHARMACOLOGICAL, PARTICULARLY ANTI-INFLAMMATORY PROPERTIES AND ARE ACTIVE INGREDIENTS FOR PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITIONS. THE NOVEL COMPOUND, N-(4-FLUOROPHENYL)-2,3-DICHLOROMALEIMIDE, HAS BEEN FOUND TO POSSESS GOOD FUNGICIDAL PROPERTIES, PARTICULARLY FOR SUCH PLANT DISEASES AS TOMATO DISEASE, RICE FLIGHT, ANTHRAX DISEASE IN CUCUMBERS AND BLACK SPOT DISEASE IN CITRUS FRUIT. THIS COMPOUND CAN BE EFFECTIVELY USED IN LOWER CONCENTRATIONS COMPARED WITH PREVIOUSLY KNOWN FUNGICIDL MALEIMIDES.
