    摘要: A vehicle construction comprises a series of modules which can be individually fabricated and assembled to include vehicle operating components before the modules are combined in the final assembly of the vehicle. An underbody module, including a passenger platform is preferably integrally constructed with a chassis frame comprising a pair of longitudinal rails sandwiched between upper and lower flooring panels and extending longitudinally beyond the flooring panels, is a support structure for the remaining modules. A second module comprising a cowl having a windshield frame integrally constructed with a dash panel frame provides structural support for vehicle controls and adjacent modules or body panels. Preferably, the underbody and cowl modules are joined by additional structural supports to form a cage enclosing passenger area of the vehicle. A third module encloses the vehicle area in front of the passenger compartment and a fourth module encloses the area behind the passenger compartment. The modular construction permits assembly by means of a plurality of subassembly lines, each of which pertains to the construction of a single module. In one form, the assembly method involves subassembly lines that intersect a single final assembly line. Alternatively, one or more of the subassembly lines may be remotely located with respect to the final assembly line, and the number of subassembly lines used to construct each individual module can be multiplied as necessary for efficient production.

A windshield module can include a peripheral gasket, integral leaf screen and a hinged sun roof. A door module can include a peripheral gasket and bracket attached to a window installed in a door. A rear window module can include hinged side windows and a roof panel. After the modules have been formed, they are then assembled to a vehicle body.

    摘要: A modular structure formed of components which when assembled define the basic chassis of a land, sea, or air vehicle, to which chassis is attachable a body which may be a fuselage or hull in a selected configuration to create the desired vehicle. The structure consists of substantially identical front and rear cradles joined to opposing ends of a floor tray. The use to which the cradles are put depends on the nature of the vehicle, so that in the case of a land vehicle, wheel suspension fixtures are bolted to the cradles to support the wheels depending on the nature of the vehicle. Overlying the floor tray and secured thereto is a safety capsule, the capsule acting as a truss for the chassis and functioning as the cockpit section of a body which, in the case of an automobile, is completed by a front body section secured to the front cradle and a rear body section secured to the rear cradle.

    摘要: A tracked vehicle designed to allow easy dismounting, as for servicing, of a power train assembly comprising a torque converter, a transmission, and a steering mechanism detachably joined together. Having its input shaft coupled to the output shaft of an engine via a joint, the torque converter is supported on a pair of main vehicle frame members via a removable support member extending therebetween. The steering mechanism is mounted to the main frame members both detachably and for pivotal motion about the aligned axis of its pair of output shafts separably connected to respective retractable input shafts of final drives secured externally to the main frame members. Thus the power train assembly is either wholly dismountable from the vehicle frame or pivotable relative to the vehicle frame about the aligned output shafts of the steering mechanism for dismounting only the torque converter and the transmission.
