Abstract: A grant may allocate resources for an uplink transmission by a user equipment (UE) in a system using beamforming, where the resources may be used by the UE to transmit data or control information during a time that a base station is listening in a certain receive beam direction. A UE may be in communication with a base station using beamformed transmissions, and the base station may send a resource grant to the UE for uplink transmissions that correspond to a receive beam direction of a beamsweeping operation. The UE may then transmit data and/or uplink control information to the base station according to the resource grant and when the base station is listening in the corresponding direction. In some examples, the UE may send the uplink transmission to the serving base station, and transmit a random access channel to another base station based on the beamsweeping operation.

A feedback configuration for providing feedback for such separate feedback processes may be determined based on semi-static signaling and dynamic signaling. In some cases, semi-static signaling, such as radio resource control (RRC) signaling and dynamic signaling, such as downlink control information (DCI), may together provide a feedback configuration for a particular transmission. The semi-static signaling may provide a number of bits of feedback information, an interpretation of the bits of feedback information, or combinations thereof, and dynamic signaling may indicate that one or more of the bits are to have one of a number of available interpretations, may indicate that one or more additional bits are to be included with feedback, of combinations thereof. Feedback techniques as discussed herein may be used to provide feedback for uplink or downlink transmissions.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure implement techniques to allow a base station to transmit a “short-page” message (e.g., paging indicators) to one or more UEs. The short-page message may be decoded by all UEs in the paging cycle and identifies a subset of UEs from the full set of UEs that are paged by the base station. Upon decoding the short page transmitted by the base station, the UE may respond with a “short-page response” to the base station on a transmit beam that offers best signal quality (e.g., low signal-to-noise ratio, transmit power, etc.). Thus, in some examples, the UE, in response to receiving a short paging message, may provide feedback to the base station such that the base station may select a transmit beam for transmission for a subsequent message (and other communications).

A master base station may be configured to determine a timing window for a user equipment (UE) to monitor a downlink channel associated with a secondary base station. In some cases, the master base station may determine the timing window during a dual connectivity procedure or during a carrier aggregation procedure. The UE may monitor the downlink channel during the timing window and establish a beam pair link with the secondary base station based on the monitoring.
