    Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communications and, more particularly, to methods and apparatus for rate-matching a stream of bits encoded using polar codes. An exemplary method generally includes determining a mother code size (N) for transmitting an encoded stream of bits based, at least in part, on a minimum supported code rate for transmitting the encoded stream of bits (Rmin), a control information size of the encoded stream of bits (K), a number of coded bits for transmission (E), and a maximum mother code size (Nmax), encoding a stream of bits using a polar code of size (N, K) and storing the encoded stream of bits in a circular buffer, and performing rate-matching on the stored encoded stream of bits based, at least in part, on a comparison among the mother code size (N), the control information size of the encoded stream of bits (K), and the number of coded bits for transmission (E).

    Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide various flexible search space designs that can handle UEs with various capabilities and limitations. In some aspects of the disclosure, the downlink bandwidth may be divided into several self-contained sub-bands. Each sub-band may include one or more OFDM subcarriers or tones, and each UE may be configured to monitor one or more of the sub-bands for its downlink control channel. The sub-band is self-contained in such a way that each sub-band includes CCEs that are mapped to resource elements contained in the same sub-band. In some aspects of the disclosure, different sub-bands can be configured with the different transmission modes and pilot densities. The transmission mode, pilot density, and layer-ID may be determined as a function of each UE's search space.

    Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to techniques for encoding and decoding bits of information using cyclic redundancy check (CRC) concatenated polar encoding and decoding. The CRC concatenated polar encoding techniques may avoid transmission of dummy bits. A method generally includes obtaining the bits of information to be transmitted. The method includes performing CRC outer encoding of the bits of information using an even-weighted generator polynomial to produce CRC encoded bits. The method includes performing polar inner encoding of the CRC encoded bits to generate a codeword. The method includes discarding a first code bit at a beginning of the codeword. The shortened codeword is transmitted over a wireless medium. In another method, bit-level scrambling is performed on the CRC encoded bits before the polar encoding to avoid generating a dummy bit. In another method, only odd-weighted generator polynomials are selected to avoid generating the dummy bit.

    Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communication. One method for wireless communication includes transmitting, to a user equipment (UE), an indication of a control channel subcarrier spacing to be used by the UE; and transmitting a control message having a subcarrier spacing in accordance with the indication. Another method for wireless communication includes transmitting, to a UE, an indicator channel identifying at least a subcarrier spacing to be used in one or more subsequent control channels. One or more subsequent control channels are then transmitted in accordance with the subcarrier spacing indicated by the indicator channel.
