Abstract: In a method for generating a physical layer (PHY) data unit for transmission via a communication channel, information bits to be included in the PHY data unit are received. A number of padding bits are added to the information bits. The number of padding bits is determined based on respective virtual values of each of one or more encoding parameters. The information bits are parsed to a number of encoders and are encoded, using the number of encoders, to generate coded bits. The coded bits are padded such that padded coded bits correspond to respective true values of each of the one or more encoding parameters. The PHY data unit is generated to include the padded coded bits.

Abstract: A beamformee receives a channel coefficient matrix H of a wireless communication channel between a beamformer and the beamformee. The channel coefficient matrix is a 2×N complex matrix having two rows corresponding to two antenna of the beamformee and N columns corresponding to N antenna of the beamformer. A real symmetric matrix M is determined based on the matrix H followed by determining eigenvalues and eigenvectors of matrix M. Singular vectors of the matrix H based on the eigenvectors are determined where the singular vectors define a steering matrix. The steering matrix is transmitted to a beamformer, wherein a beam is steered by the beamformer to the beamformee based on the steering matrix.

Abstract: A method and system for generating an extended range (ER) physical layer protocol data unit (PPDU) is disclosed. The PPDU has a legacy portion of the ER PPDU which comprises one or more of a legacy short training field (L-STF), a legacy long training field (L-LTF), and a universal signaling (U-SIG) field and an ER portion of the ER PPDU which is appended to the legacy portion. The ER portion comprises one or more repetitions of a ER short training field (ER-STF), a ER long training field (ER-LTF), a ER-signal (ER-SIG) field, and a ER data field. In an example, signals indicative of the one or more repetitions for a same field are combined by a receiver to increase a signal to noise ratio of a field.

Abstract: A WLAN AP includes an array of antennas, a transceiver and a processor. The transceiver is configured to transmit via the array of antennas downlink packets to WLAN STAs, and to receive uplink packets from the STAs. The processor is coupled to the transceiver and is configured to send a request to a plurality of the STAs to transmit a respective plurality of channel-sounding packets corresponding to the plurality of STAs, to receive the plurality of channel-sounding packets from the plurality of STAs in response to the request, to compute, based on the received plurality of channel-sounding packets, a beamforming matrix that defines subsequent transmission beams aimed toward at least a subset of the plurality of STAs, and to transmit one or more downlink data packets to one or more of the STAs via the array of antennas, in accordance with the beamforming matrix.
