    Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to mechanism for first random access mode falling back to second random access mode. According to embodiments of the present disclosure, the fallback to second random access mode is indicated in messageB and the user equipment only needs to monitor the messageB for the quick mode on the downlink control signal which is addressed to an identifier. The user equipment does not need to monitor the downlink control channel for the second random access mode. In this way, the user equipment is allowed to fall back to the second random access mode without further retry of the quick mode, thereby reducing overload and latency.

    Abstract: In one exemplary embodiment, a method includes: determining, by a network node, information of at least one period of time that a user equipment is to monitor for a wake-up signal to decode, where the information comprises indications of a configuration or a behavior for the user equipment to dynamically control the monitoring of the wake-up signal for the decoding; and communicating signaling comprising the information towards the user equipment. In another exemplary embodiment, a method includes: receiving from a network node, by a user equipment, information of at least one period of time that the user equipment is to monitor for a wake-up signal to decode, where the information comprises indications of a configuration or a behavior for the user equipment to dynamically control the monitoring of the wake-up signal for the decoding; and using the information to perform the monitoring of the wake-up signal for the decoding.

    Abstract: A method includes determining whether a downlink beam signal is being received from a base station (502); when the downlink beam signal is being received from the base station, determining whether a measurable property of the downlink beam signal does not meet a preselected threshold (504); when the downlink beam signal is not being received from the base station or when the measurable property of the downlink beam signal does not meet the preselected threshold, transmitting a message to the base station indicating that at least one uplink beam corresponding to the downlink beam has failed (506); and receiving a reply message from the base station with information required to determine a new uplink beam (508). An alternative method includes determining whether at least one uplink beam signal is being received from a user equipment (602); determining whether a measurable property of the at least one uplink beam signal does not meet a preselected threshold, when the at least one uplink beam signal is being received from the user equipment (604); and transmitting a message to the user equipment to initiate uplink beam recovery, when at least one uplink beam signal is not being received from the user equipment or when the measurable property of the at least one uplink beam signal does not meet the preselected threshold (606).

    Abstract: In example an embodiment, according to the method, a timer is started to monitor selection of a RA resource in response to a RA procedure for accessing a network device being initiated. The timer is configured with expiration time. The timer is stopped in response to a RA resource being selected for transmitting a RA preamble to the network device. A preamble transmission counter is incremented in response to the timer expiring. The preamble transmission counter records the number of transmitted RA preambles. A failure of the RA procedure is indicated in response to the incremented preamble transmission counter exceeding a threshold. The embodiment enables completion of the RA procedure regardless of an out of coverage situation where no beam is available to be selected for transmitting a RA preamble.

The method may also include transmitting, based on the determination, the data on the configured grant to activate a cell. In an example embodiment, the transmission on the configured grant may be performed regardless of a current activation status of the cell for which the configured grant is configured, or a suspend status of the configured grant.
