Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for random access channel (RACH) communication. For example, certain aspects provide a method for wireless communication by a user-equipment (UE). The method generally includes transmitting a first message comprising a RACH preamble, receiving a second message comprising random access response (RAR) in response to the RACH preamble, transmitting a third message in response to the RAR, receiving a fourth message (MSG4) comprising a contention resolution message in response to the third message. In certain aspects, the fourth message may include a timing advance (TA) parameter which may be used to communicate one or more messages.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A wireless node may establish a wireless connection between the wireless node and a second wireless node in a wireless backhaul communications network. The wireless node may identify a first set of common resources for use in at least one of access communications or backhaul communications. The first set of common resources is allocated for common use by the wireless nodes of the wireless backhaul communications network. The wireless node may identify a second set of partitioned resources available for at least one of access communications or backhaul communications. The second set partitioned into a plurality of subsets each allocated for use by selected subsets of one or more of the wireless nodes of the wireless backhaul communications network.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatuses for performing a beam recovery procedure using a second CC are disclosed. A UE may perform a beam recovery procedure using two component carriers (CCs): for example, CC1 may be a beam formed millimeter wave (MMW) carrier having a beam recovery procedure and CC2 may be an assisting carrier such as a sub-6 GHz carrier. In a first example, a UE may trigger beam recovery for CC1 (on CC2), generate a beam measurement report, and transmit the beam report on resources allocated for uplink transmission on CC2. In a second example, a new scheduling request (SR) may be defined on CC1 for CC2 beam recovery. In a third example, RACH resources or procedures on CC2 may be used to perform the beam recovery for CC1.

The different sets of control messages may include a first set of control messages for an access radio link between the relay and the CU and a second set of control messages for a fronthaul radio link between the relay and the CU. Techniques may include multiplexing of messages on a radio bearer (RB), establishment of separate RBs for different control messages, and encapsulation of one type of control message for transmission with the other type of control message.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) can transmit a beam failure recovery request using contention-based physical random access channel (PRACH) resources to supplement and/or replace non-contention-based resources for transmitting the beam failure recovery request. The UE can reduce beam recovery latency by informing its intention for beam failure recovery by transmitting a beam failure recovery request during the random access channel (RACH) procedure. The base station may dedicate a set of RACH resources that can be used for both transmitting regular contention-based RACH messages and beam failure recovery request.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A base station may use quasi co-located antenna ports for transmission of synchronization signal(s)/reference signal(s) and paging signals. For example, the base station may use a first antenna port configuration for transmission of the synchronization/reference signal(s) and a second antenna port configuration for transmission of the paging signal (e.g., paging indicator, paging message, etc.). The base station may transmit an indication of the quasi co-located antenna ports. A user equipment (UE) may receive the synchronization signal and, based on the antenna ports being quasi co-located, receive the paging signal. In some examples, the UE may determine which receive beam to use to receive the paging signal based on the antenna ports being quasi co-located. In some aspects, the UE may use a reference signal transmitted on antenna ports that are quasi co-located with the paging signal antenna ports.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. The described techniques provide for determining to not transmit a portion of a second signal that overlaps in time with a first signal. A user equipment (UE) may identify a first signal to be communicated during a first time duration using a first beam pair link (BPL) and identify a second signal that is scheduled to be communicated during a second time duration using a second BPL. The UE may identify a misalignment between timing advance values for the BPLs, the misalignment causing an overlap in time between the first signal scheduled during the first time duration and the second signal scheduled during the second time duration. The UE may determine whether to drop part of the second signal and communicate the first signal and a remaining portion of the second signal based at least in part on the determining.

Abstract: A structure where there are self-contained subframes/slots with smaller TTIs within the subframes/slots is provided to address the issues in MMW scheduling. In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may transmit downlink information to at least one UE using a plurality of downlink TTIs within a subframe/slot. The apparatus may receive uplink information from the at least one UE using at least one uplink region within the subframe/slot. In another aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may receive downlink information from a base station using at least one downlink TTI within a subframe/slot. The subframe/slot may include a plurality of downlink TTIs and at least one uplink region. The apparatus may transmit uplink information to the base station using the at least one uplink region within the subframe/slot.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) being served by a first cell may receive a synchronization signal (SS) block from the first cell. The UE may also receive an SS block from a second cell. The first cell may determine synchronization assistance information for the second cell and transmit the synchronization assistance information to the UE. The UE may use the synchronization assistance information to determine the index for the SS block from the second cell. For example, the synchronization assistance information may indicate that the UE is to use the index of the SS block from the first cell as the index for the SS block from the second cell. Once the index for the SS block from the second cell is determined, the UE may identify the subframe or slot timing used by the second cell and proceed with cell acquisition.

In an aspect, a first node determines a type of measurement to be performed on the reference RF signal, selects a receive beam based on the type of measurement to be performed on the reference RF signal, generates the selected receive beam, receives, from a second node, using the generated receive beam, the reference RF signal transmitted on a wireless channel, and performs one or more measurements on the received reference RF signal according to the type of the measurement to be performed.
