Abstract:
By a first conveying device printing products are fed in an imbricated formation (S), in which each printing product rests on the following one, the fold edge of the folded products forming the trailing edge. The printing products are pushed into an intermediate stack from below. The respectively uppermost product of this intermediate stack is seized in the region of the fold edge by at least one sucker of a sucker arrangement, raised upward and brought into the conveying region (F) of a second conveying device. The latter has individually controllable grippers which are arranged at regular intervals, circulate along a closed path, seize the fold edges delivered by the sucker arrangement and convey away the printing products thus seized. By forming an intermediate stack, from which the printing products are then raised by the sucker arrangement at the desired rate and fed to the grippers, even imbricated formations (S) occurring with irregularities can be processed satisfactorily.
Abstract:
An apparatus ideally suited for the small mailing service is disclosed. The apparatus can take pro-printed, un-addressed mail pieces of non-identical size delivered to the mailing service from different merchants and combine the mail pieces to create mailing bundles at the lowest postal rate and group the bundles to create a single mailing. In the apparatus a computer serves to take the merchant mailing lists, merge and sort the entries thereon into lowest postal rate groupings, and use this merged data base to enable a sequence controller and associated machinery to physically commingle and address the non-identical mail pieces into the single mailing bundle. Provision is also made for generating required postal service documentation and invoices from the mailing service to the merchants.
Abstract:
An improved system for segregating and identifying separate job sets from a commonly stacked output of plural job sets of copy sheets sequentially generated by a printer and sequentially outputted into a sheet stacker in which they may be superposed commonly stacked. A control system selects which standard size sheet supply tray of the printer will feed the copy sheets for a selected job set, and can automatically feed and print a cover sheet of a larger size or different orientation before or after the job set copy sheets are fed. The sheet stacker may desirably stack the copy sheets of the job sets commonly edge aligned but so that at least one edge area of the cover sheets extends substantially from at least one edge of the stack of copy sheets of the job sets to provide an exposed printed banner strip for clear job sets segregation and separation even if the commonly stacked plural job sets of copy sheets are misaligned in subsequent handling. The cover sheets may be printed side up even if the job set copy sheets are stacked printed side down. The exposed banner strip may have identifying indicia printed thereon for identifying job sets.
Abstract:
A system and method which compares document requirements to the printer capability and determines the best match therebetween. When a mismatch occurs, the system determines the best match between size, color, weight and type by determining a mismatch magnitude between the job paper requirements and the printer's paper capabilities or stocks. The paper with the lowest mismatch magnitude is designated. The system also determines the best match between the document requirements and the printer capability for stapling, folding, duplexing and stacking. The operator is given an opportunity to correct any mismatches and the best match is used to configure the printer for the job if the user has specified a best match print strategy.
Abstract:
A material web guide assembly for a rotary printing press having at least one shiftable web guide roller utilizes fixed and movable guide assemblies to provide a web guide path for guiding a web being threaded through the press. The movable guide assembly is shiftable with the shiftable web guide roller. Cooperating guide channels on the fixed and movable guide assemblies cooperate with each other to lengthen or shorten the guide path in concert with movement of the shiftable web guide roller.
Abstract:
To cross-fold a moving web into one-third lengths, a cutter blade cylinder (1, 26) is at a cutting position with a counter cylinder (4, 28), which carries needles and may also carry cutting knives. The cutting knives are arranged to cut the web into a format of one-third/two-third length, respectively. The needles (5, 6) on the cylinder transfer the one-third cut element to a second needling cylinder (9, 32) which re-transfers the cut elements to a group of needles (6) on the first needling cylinder (4, 28) so that the one-third length portion is superimposed on the two-third length portion. These two superimposed portions are then transferred to a combination needling-folding blade cylinder (10, 33) which folds the two-third portion in half and transfers the fold to a folding jaw cylinder (14, 38) so that the one-third portion is interlaced into the two-thirds portion. The arrangement has the advantage that the punctures from the puncturing needles are at the outer margin, which can be small, and be trimmed off.
Abstract:
In a fan delivery unit of a folder having a plurality of fan discs arranged next to one another on a motor shaft, the fan discs being formed with a plurality of fan blades having fan pockets therebetween, there is provided a device for braking printed products. The braking device includes driven brake shaft disposed parallel to the motor shaft, a plurality of brake rollers corresponding in number to the number of fan discs being mounted on the brake shaft, and a device for driving the brake shaft via the motor shaft selectively in one of two rotational directions. The brake rollers and leading edges of the fan blades are cooperative for delaying travel of a printed product introduced into the respective fan pockets.
Abstract:
A score or perforator bar device is adapted for use with certain printing presses having a blanket cylinder revolving upon an axle shaft and with an elongate slot for attachment of the blanket. The adapter device includes a bar of a length substantially the same as the cylinder with a working side having a longitudinal slot for mounting a knife blade. The knife blade has either a scoring edge or a perforation edge, depending upon the desired effect. The bar has an attachment side for connection to the blanket cylinder and has legs extending generally perpendicularly. The legs have recessed ends for bearing against the cylinder shaft so that the force of the blade is transferred to the axle shaft and not to the cylinder shell. A screw arrangement retains the bar in a cylinder slot.
Abstract:
To permit web portions (16, 17; 18, 19; 20, 21) slit from longitudinal webs (2a, 2b, 2c) to be selectively interleaved or interlaced, with or without turning over, pairs of turning bars or rods (6, 7; 8, 9; 10, 11; 12, 13) are located in essentially vertically aligned position; laterally of the turning rods, two deflection rollers (22, 23) are positioned which can be individually movably shifted by individual drive motors (32) operating a gear on a rack formed on guide rails, so that the deflection rollers can be selectively positioned at the level of a selected pair of turning rods. This permits placement of a web portion, right side up or turned over, between a pair of web portions which is not necessarily the next adjacent one in the vertical sequence of superimposed webs arriving at the interlacing or interleaving system.
Abstract:
A marker is used for the confirmation of the paper web-threaded paths for rotary presses. The marker includes a marking unit for putting a mark on a paper web and a regulator composed of 1) a timing detector to detect the rotational phase of a printing cylinder and transmit a detected timing signal and 2) a transmitter to transmit an operating signal to the marking unit when it receives a detected timing signal from the timing detector. The regulator control when a mark is put on the paper web by the marking unit so that the mark always has a predetermined phase with respect to the printed images produced during a printing operation. A paper web-threaded path confirming apparatus includes a mark detector to detect a mark put on the paper web by the marking unit and transmit a detected mark signal. A transmitter transmits a rotational phase signal relatively to the rotational phase of a cutter cylinder rotated in a folder unit. An examination unit examines whether or not the detected mark signal transmitting time is within a predetermined range of the rotational phase signal, when the detected mark signal and rotational phase signal are input thereinto. The marker and confirming apparatus enables the confirming of the paper web-threaded paths and the feeding of an erroneously threaded paper web into a proper path to be done before images have been printed actually thereon, and prevents a delay in starting a production printing operation.
