The card-type radio device is constituted by a first housing having a radio communication circuit built therein and a second housing having an antenna built therein. The first housing and the second housing are freely detached/attached to/from each other by using an engagement means. When the card-type radio device is set in an information terminal device, the second housing is separated from the first housing, and the second housing is located at a position where the antenna has good transmission/reception sensitivity.

The upconverter mixer circuit comprises a Gilbert cell with an LC-resonator tuned to the output frequency of the upconverter mixer circuit, and an output buffer. In a preferred embodiment the output buffer comprises a differential amplifier being emitter degenerated with inductances for a low-pass characteristic. The LC-resonator of the Gilbert cell as well as the inductances of the output amplifier are integrated in an integrated circuit together with the other parts of the upconverter mixer circuit and provide a first selection within the integrated circuit for the subsequent stages, for example an intermediate frequency filter of a double conversion TV tuner. When the upconverter mixer circuit is operated with a strong DC-current and hard switching, which is necessary for achieving low noise, strong high frequency parasitic currents are also generated. These are mainly harmonics of the local oscillator frequency, which can be observed on the supply lines and input and output lines of the integrated circuit. The two stages of the upconverter mixer, the Gilbert cell followed by the output buffer, provide therefore a first intermediate filter to suppress parasitic currents within the upconverter mixer circuit. This enables to design a receiver with a large dynamic range and a high linearity, and having a low nois.

A mixer architecture receives an input signal, which is frequency translated from a first frequency to a second frequency in a first mixer; the resulting output signal is retranslated back to the first frequency in a second mixer, the retranslated signal is added to a sample of the input, with gain and phase control, and the resulting error signal is added to the input signal when it is applied to the first mixer. A configurable dual-band RF transceiver with a cascaded frequency conversion scheme (DBXVR) is disclosed for the processing of any selected RF channel signal specified by the open standard IEEE 802.11 a/b/g for Wireless LAN. The DBXVR comprises two switchably connected antennae for receiving and transmitting any selected RF channel signal and two subsets of signal processing hardware. The first signal processing subset is designed to perform all related frequency conversion, signal filtering and amplification between the b/g-band and its corresponding Baseband Inphase (I) and Quadrature (Q) signals. The second signal processing subset is designed to perform all related frequency conversion, signal filtering and amplification between the a-band, located at a disjointed and much higher frequency range than the b/g-band, and its corresponding b/g-band frequency for an ultimate, cascaded second signal processing into the Baseband I and Q signals using essentially the same hardware from the first signal processing subset.

A photomask or reticle including a unique set of alignment attributes at separate and distinguishable field points is put in the reticle plane of a photolithographic projection system. The reticle pattern is exposed onto a resist coated wafer or substrate and processed through the final few steps of the photolithographic process. The resulting array of alignment attributes are then measured using a standard optical overlay metrology tool. The overlay tool is driven by a set of software instructions. By comparing the resulting overlay data to the placement error encoded on the reticle it can determined if the data has been read or displayed in the correct order.

An entire radio transceiver can be completely integrated into one IC chip. In order to integrate the IF filters on the chip, a heterodyne architecture with a low IF is used. A single, directly modulated VCO is used for both up-conversion during transmission, and down-conversion during reception. Bond-wires are used as resonators in the oscillator tank for the VCO. A TDD scheme is used in the air interface to eliminate cross-talk or leakage. A Gaussian-shaped binary FSK modulation scheme is used to provide a number of other implementation advantages.

A new method for using a tracking polyphase filter for image rejection of variable intermediate frequencies is introduced. This method allows for reduce sensitivity to resistor and capacitor manufacturing variations and allows for the polyphase filter response to be enhanced compared to the prior art.
