Abstract: An aircraft for vertical take-off and landing includes an aircraft frame having an open frame portion, at least one vertical thruster, a pod, separable from the aircraft and including a cabin to contain at least one of cargo and passengers, where the pod, when mounted to the aircraft, defines at least a portion of the aircraft frame, and a mounting system including at least one attachment member configured to attach the pod to the open frame portion. Such aircraft is capable of flight with and without the pod.

Abstract: An aircraft includes a fuselage and a storage bay formed in the fuselage. A wing has an outboard end, has an inboard end, is moveable relative to the fuselage in an outboard direction to an extended position, and is moveable relative to the fuselage in an inboard direction into the storage bay to a retracted position. A motor assembly is located at the outboard end of the wing and is pivotally connected to the wing. The motor assembly includes a propeller and a motor operable to rotate the propeller.

Abstract: The universal vehicle system is designed with a lifting body which is composed of a plurality of interconnected modules which are configured to form an aerodynamically viable contour of the lifting body which including a front central module, a rear module, and thrust vectoring modules displaceably connected to the front central module and operatively coupled to respective propulsive mechanisms. The thrust vectoring modules are controlled for dynamical displacement relative to the lifting body (in tilting and/or translating fashion) to direct and actuate the propulsive mechanism(s) as needed for safe and stable operation in various modes of operation and transitioning therebetween in air, water and terrain environments.

Abstract: An aircraft includes at least one propulsion engine, coupled to a fuselage, and configured to provide forward thrust to propel the aircraft along a first vector during forward flight. Each of at least two of multiple rotors coupled to the fuselage is coupled to a motor configured to supply power to that rotor and/or to draw power from that rotor. At least two of the rotors are configured to operate during forward flight to provide at least some lift to the aircraft along a second vector. A flight control system is configured to control the rotors that are configured to operate during forward flight in a power managed regime in which a net electrical power, consisting of the sum of the power being supplied to or drawn from each rotor by its motor, is maintained within a range determined by a feedback control system of the flight control system.

Abstract: The present application discloses an apparatus capable of walking and flight. This apparatus includes a central section supported by a plurality of limbs, wherein a distal end of each of the plurality of limbs defines a contact surface. These limbs are configured to generate a walking-type motion in which the contact surfaces of the limbs cooperate with an environmental surface in a manner sufficient to propel the central section relative the environmental surface. The apparatus further includes a motor operably coupled to at least one limb of the plurality of limbs, wherein the motor is drivingly coupled to a propeller, and wherein the motor and propeller are configured to propel the central section in flight.

The air module may be equipped with a center of gravity effector to change the relative locations and hence the center of gravity of the air and ground modules when the modules are attached. The center of gravity effector may be active or passive or a combination of active and passive. The center of gravity effector may be combined with a center of lift effector to change the relative locations of the center of gravity and center of lift.

The aircraft may also include a mast system (106, 406) and a para-wing (404) coupled to the mast system (406) configured to facilitate transport of heavier payloads.
