摘要: An airbag system includes a VTOL aircraft fuselage having an airbag compartment defined within the fuselage. A protective cover defines a portion of the exterior surface of the fuselage. The protective cover encloses at least a portion of the airbag compartment. An airbag is folded within the airbag compartment secured to a point on the fuselage. A method for deploying an airbag in an aircraft includes sending a signal to a gas generator to inflate at least one airbag secured within an airbag compartment within a fuselage of an aircraft. The method includes jettisoning off a protective cover from the airbag compartment. The method includes inflating the airbag with the gas generator to extend outside of the airbag compartment to attenuate forces and cushion the aircraft upon ground impact.

摘要: A pressure control system for an aircraft seat includes a base plate and a plurality of cells attached to the base plate, each cell having a bellows and a top inflatable diaphragm and defines a pressure chamber therein. Charging apertures are formed in the base plate such that each cell has an associated charging aperture such that each charging aperture is in fluid communication with a pressure chamber. Discharging apertures are formed in the base plate such that each cell has an associated discharging aperture such that each discharging apertures is in fluid communication a pressure chamber. A charging valve and a discharging valve is in fluid communication with the pressure chambers and configured to supply or extract air to or from the chambers through the apertures. A pump is configured to supply pressurized air to the at least one charging valve.

摘要: Various embodiments of vehicle occupant safety systems having extendable restraints for use with, for example, airbags are described herein. In one embodiment, for example, the disclosed technology includes a 2-point occupant restraint that secures an occupant in an aircraft seat. In this embodiment, the aircraft seat is positioned in a seating area that includes a forward monument housing a stowed airbag. In the event of a crash or other significant dynamic event that causes, for example, a rapid deceleration of the aircraft above a preset magnitude, the airbag deploys between the occupant and the monument as the dynamic forces cause the occupant to pitch forward. The forward momentum of the occupant's body creates a significant tension load in the 2-point restraint, which causes the restraint to extend by a preset amount, thereby allowing the occupant to move forward in the seat more than the occupant would have moved had the occupant been wearing a conventional, non-extending 2-point restraint. Although the occupant is allowed to move forward, the occupant remains secured to the extended restraint by means of non-extending webbing that is secured around the waist of the occupant. Allowing the occupant to move forward in this manner enables the occupant's upper torso to impact the airbag at a reduced or otherwise more favorable angle. This can reduce both the speed and the angle at which the occupant's head impacts the airbag, thereby reducing the likelihood of injury.

摘要: The present invention discloses embodiments of an apparatus, systems and related methods for occupant protection in an aircraft during an abrupt stop - such as in a forward-facing crash event. Embodiments of the present invention disclose a two point lap belt that provide superior passenger comfort and retractability, due to inventive construction, by providing enhanced flexibility of the two point lap belt, and more specifically, the extensible (non-static) portion. The present invention first includes a new airbag material which contributes to the enhanced flexibility, namely, a polyester textile structure treated with a phosphate-phosphonate compound. In further embodiments the material is the coated in a polyurethane mixture. The present invention also includes a new method of compacting the airbag such that it may be disposed in a lap belt while remaining substantially unobtrusive and comfortable to a passenger. The invention also includes a new containment material, namely a tubular webbing, to further enhance the flexibility of the shoulder harness over the prior art which generally comprises leather or leather-approximations. The result of the invention also provides enhanced retractability over the prior art, such that the two point lap belt may be more easily stowed relative to the prior art.

摘要: An impact protection apparatus is provided, comprising a gas container configured to hold a compressed gas and an inflatable member configured to be inflated by the gas and function as an airbag of a movable object, such as an aerial vehicle. A valve controls flow of gas from the container to the inflatable member in response to a signal from a valve controller. The valve and valve controller are powered by an independent power source than one or more other systems of the movable object. A safety mechanism may also be provided that, unless deactivated, prevents inflation of the inflatable member.

摘要: A self inflating escape pod in the form of a vest to be worn by an individual to protect their body from a fall when they jump from a high rise building. The vest has a battery, altimeter, motion sensor, bladders and means for inflating the bladders. Removal of the vest from a storage cabinet activates the altimeter which activates the motion detector upon detecting a change in altitude. Upon sensing motion, the motion detector activates inflation of the bladders, forming a pod surround the individual's body. Air channels in the pod provide air to the individual and the pod is designed to accommodate different sizes of individuals. Beacons and reflectors on the pod assist in locating it, and one or more of the bladders will automatically deflate once the individual has stopped falling.
