Abstract: A suspension device in a crawler vehicle has a vehicle body, a pair of parallel spaced swing beams mounted on a rear portion of the vehicle body by a suspension for angular movement about a first axis located substantially longitudinally centrally thereof, a rear idle wheel rotatably supported on a front portion of each of the swing beams for rotation about a second axis, a rear drive wheel rotatably supported on a rear portion of each of the swing beams for rotation about a third axis, a crawler belt trained around the rear idle wheel and the rear drive wheel, and a front wheel rotatably mounted on a front portion of the vehicle body. The distance from the second axis to the first axis is greater than the distance from the first axis to the third axis. The second axis is positioned on a front end of each of the swing beams, and the third axis is positioned between the first axis and a rear end of each of the swing beams. Preferably, the distance from the second axis to the first axis and the distance from the first axis to the third axis have a ratio of about 2:1.

Abstract: A track suspension system for a vehicle having a frame and a continuous flexible track. A drive wheel is attached to the frame for engaging and driving the continuous flexible track. A leading idler arm is pivotally attached to the frame on each side thereof and a leading idler wheel is rotatably mounted for engagement with the track. A trailing idler arm is provided on each side of the vehicle and is pivotally attached to the frame and a trailing idler wheel engagement with the track is rotatably mounted to one end of each idler trailing arm. A leading mid-roller assembly engagement with the track is operably attached to the leading idler arm and a trailer mid-roller assembly is in engagement with the track and is attached to the trailing idler arm. A cushioning device interconnects the leading and trailer idler arms for providing shock absorbing function. A valve system is provided for releasing all of the pressure on the leading and trailing idler arms so that all of the weight of the tractor is on the mid-roller assembly, thereby facilitating easier turning. The valve system is also operable to put leading and trailing idler arms in either a cushioning mode for use in the fields or travel down the highway or into a non-cushioning mode for use in very soft fields.

Abstract: An undercarriage structure for a track-type machine having a main frame includes first and second track roller frame assemblies, one positioned on each side of the main frame, and connected to the main frame by one or more pivot shafts. The first and second roller frames are positioned at an angle relative to the main frame in a vertically oriented plane to produce a substantially negative camber angle at zero vertical load on the roller frames. The camber angle cycles between negative and positive during loading of the roller frames within the working range of the machine. This results in the rails of the endless track contacting the track rollers in different areas and prolongs the wear life of the endless track.

Abstract: A suspension system for the idlers and guide wheels, and related structures, of a belted track-type vehicle provides cushioning for the vehicle and components as the vehicle traverses obstacles and uneven terrain. The suspension system also provides tensioning and recoil for the endless track belt during ingestion of foreign material between the belt and the idler wheel. The suspension system includes a plurality of hydropneumatic struts connected between the vehicle frame and various belt guiding and supporting components. Most endless track machines utilize auxiliary frame assembles on each side of the main vehicle frame to support track guiding rollers, idler wheels, suspension systems, and track recoil mechanisms. These auxiliary frame assembles are bulky, heavy, and complicated and generally limit the total amount of suspension and recoil afforded to the idler wheels and track guide wheels. The subject suspension system is void of any auxiliary track frames and connects all of the suspension and recoil struts directly to the main frame. This provides considerable amount of travel for the recoil and suspension struts and provides high speed capabilities for the vehicle. Additional, the subject suspension includes a controllable lock-out of a cushion cylinder to provide a stable work platform during certain work functions of the vehicle.

Abstract: A crawler tractor in which the track rollers supporting the crawler tractor on endless tracks passing in contact therewith are carried by a support structure suspended resiliently from the track bogie. The track roller assembly is thereby vertically movable relative to the drive wheel and the track-tensioning wheel of the crawler tractor for increasing the efficiency and stability of the crawler tractor when utilizing auxiliary earth moving equipment by increasing the amount of endless track in contact with the supporting surface during operation of the auxiliary equipment. Abstract: A hydropneumatic suspension system consists of plural separate individual wheel suspension units, one for each wheel, whereby should damage occur to any one of the units, it will not affect the operation of the other units. The heat generated by each individual wheel suspension unit is kept to a minimum, and the heat that is generated is dissipated through the vehicle hull by locating the valving and fluid passageways in close proximity to the hull. Increased heat dissipation may also be obtained by providing an air cooled tube in the fluid path between the actuator and accumulator, and by providing a flow path for the return fluid from the accumulator to the actuator in the unit mounting flange which is bolted or otherwise secured in close mating engagement with a large surface area of the vehicle hull.
