Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process and device for continuously and rotatably cutting a sheet transversely with respect to its direction of advance, wherein the device comprises a rotor provided with cutters and mounted to rotate about an axis eccentric with respect to that of a squirrel cage surrounding this rotor, the bars of the cage defining slots for the passage of the cutters as far as a flexible belt resting on an anvil member and wound on cylinders for driving the sheet to be cut. This device is particularly applicable to the cutting of laths from a sheet of wood as said latter is peeled, for the manufacture of packing cases or the like.
Abstract:
A method of converting a longitudinally elongated moulding rip having a portion containing a flaw such as a knot which is unacceptable in clear grade mouldings, into a substantially flawless premium length clear grade moulding, the rip having first and second flawless portions of substantially matching grain and a length less than a premium length, on either side of the portion containing the flaw, comprises the steps of cutting said rip transversely of its longitudinally elongated extent at both ends of the portion containing the flaw to provide smooth complementary first and second scarf joint faces on the ends of the first and second flawless portions respectively disposed adjacent the portion containing the flaw, removing the portion containing the flaw from between said first and second scarf joint faces, bonding said first and second scarf joint faces of said first and second flawless portions to one another to form a scarf joint connecting said first and second flawless portions to form a rip having a premium length, working the rip to produce a profiled moulding having a substantially flawless clear grade surface finish.
Abstract:
Apparatus and a method for reducing the bowing of window rail members constructed from wood by machining a curvature in the member which counteracts the naturally occurring bow. A number of rail members (e.g., a plurality of check rails) are initially stored in a hopper in a horizontally extending, vertically overlaying position. The bottom rail in the hopper is continuously discharged by a drive chain which conveys the rail to a camdriven cutting tool for cutting a concave bow in the rail opposite the side receiving the window pane. Curvature sensing means are associated with the hopper to determine the natural curvature, if any, of each rail, thus, allowing the curvature of the rails to be aligned and the removal of any rail having too large a natural bow to be counteracted by the machined curvature.
Abstract:
In a conventional radial arm type power saw adapted for dado cutting operations, an indexing mechanism is adapted to draw stock lumber past the sawing blades at predetermined evenly spaced intervals, and simultaneous with each spaced interval, is adapted to cause the saw to cut a notch of predetermined dimension in the stock lumber thereby continuously forming dental block wood molding.
Abstract:
An improved separator for separating lumber in a stack of a plurality of layers has a primary profile for minimizing the contact area and maximizing airflow between the separator and the adjacent boards and a secondary profile for improving frictional resistance between the separator and the adjacent boards. The primary profile comprises a plurality of grooves and a plurality of ridges formed therebetween. The secondary profile comprises a plurality of depressions on the ridges.
