摘要: The present invention relates to a continuous filament tow, for use as a filament batt in insulating materials, comprising a continuous solid filament and a continuous hollow filament. The filament batt made from the continuous filament tow has improved compressibility and recovery compared to crimped fiber batts made from a single filament or a single denier. The present invention also includes articles comprising such filament batts and a process by which the continuous filament tow is produced.

摘要: The subject matter disclosed herein relates generally to the production of a predetermined ratio of multicomponent fibers in combination with monocomponent fibers or other multicomponent fibers, preferably through a spunbonding process. After extrusion, these fibers can produce a fiber network that is subsequently bonded to produce a nonwoven fabric comprising multiple types of fibers. The multicomponent fibers within the network may be processed to remove one component by dissolution or to split the individual components into separate fibers. As a result, the fabric will be comprised of fibers with a range of diameters (micro- or nano-denier fibers as well as higher denier fibers) such that the fibers will not pack as tightly as in a homogeneous nonwoven fabric produced from one type of monocomponent or multicomponent fiber. The present invention additionally relates to methods for producing nonwoven fabrics with increased loft, breathability, strength, compressive properties, and filtration efficiency.

摘要: A fibrous product including a mixture of different shaped fibers is formed utilizing a spin pack assembly including a spinneret with at least two spinneret orifices having different cross-sections. In addition, the formation of the fibrous product is enhanced by controlling the pressure drop upstream from the spinneret orifices, which in turn facilitates effective control of fiber denier. A metering/distribution plate is preferably provided in the spin pack with channels having selected dimensions that control the pressure drop of molten polymer flowing through the spin pack. The metering/distribution plate can be retrofitted into existing systems and easily exchanged with other metering/distribution plates to enhance formation of the fibrous product with different fiber shapes.

摘要: A device and method for spinning polymer fibers utilizes one or more independent sources of polymer materials, pumps for feeding polymer material from each of the sources, and a series of distribution plates with surface grooves, through holes and/or slots together defining separated distribution paths, each of which receives polymer material from one of said independent sources. The surface grooves are defined to a depth less than the thickness of the distribution plate. At least one distribution plate contains spinneret orifices defined by outlet surface grooves extending from the distribution path to the edge of that plate, whereby fibers are extruded from the spinneret orifices edgewise from the plate. The spinneret orifices may be defined by overlayed outlet surface grooves or slots defined in abutting plates.

摘要: The present invention relates to a process for manufacturing a composite yarn comprising continuous glass filaments intermingled with continuous organic thermoplastic filaments. According to the invention, the continuous glass filaments coming from a bushing (1) are separated into several sheets (34a, 34b), the continuous organic thermoplastic filaments coming from a spinning head (11) are separated into several sheets (14a, 14b) and the thermoplastic filaments are thrown into the glass filaments so as to mingle them, in a ratio of at least one sheet of thermoplastic filaments in each sheet of glass filaments, the mingled filaments then being gathered into at least one composite yarn (27). The invention also provides an apparatus for implementing the process.

摘要: A polymer of a kind different from a polyester in an amount within the range of 0.3 to 5.0% by weight based on the polyester is added to the polyester, and the resulting composition is melt-extruded from the same pack. The extruded filament group including polyester multi-filaments is cooled once to the glass transition temperature or below, and the filament group is subsequently divided into two groups. One of the filament groups in an opened state is subjected to non-contact heat treatment at an atmospheric temperature of 120° C. or above; however, the other filament group is kept in a state without being subjected to the heat treatment. The respective filament groups are then simultaneously taken off at a speed of 2500 m/min or above and subjected to doubling and mixing of the filaments.

摘要: A fiber spinning device and process for manufacturing a web of fibers comprising a homogeneous mixture of fibers of different characteristics. Monocomponent fibers of different polymers can be extruded side-by-side from the same die system. Sheath/core bicomponent fibers can be alternated with monocomponent fibers formed of the same core polymer as used in the bicomponent fibers. Bicomponent fibers having a common core polymer and different sheath polymers can be extruded from alternate spinneret orifices in the same die plate. Multiple distribution plates are provided with surface grooves or depressions to direct polymer materials from independent sources to only selected spinneret openings in an array of spinneret openings while maintaining the polymers segregated from each other. Unique products formed from the improved mixed fiber technology are useful as high efficiency filters in various environments, coalescent filters, reservoirs for marking and writing instruments, wicks and other elements designed to hold and transfer liquids for medical and other applications, heat and moisture exchangers and other diverse fibrous matrices.
