Abstract:
The feed apparatus for feeding container blanks into a container forming machine comprises a hopper at or near its first end for holding a plurality of blanks, a selecting mechanism for selecting one of the blanks, a moving mechanism to move the blanks toward the elevated second end and then the machine and a transferring mechanism for rotating the blank from its angled direction to a substantially vertical direction for placement at the machine's receiving station. Preferably, the moving mechanism comprises a pair of parallel chains interconnected by a shaft having a gripping mechanism configured to securely grip the blank. A pivot mechanism pivots the shaft and the gripping mechanism, which is selectively opened to grip the blank below the hopper and release the blank at the machine. Laminating, folding and compressing components are provided to add adhesive, fold and then compress sections of the blank before reaching the machine.
Abstract:
An apparatus for processing flat articles, comprises a first conveyor adapted to convey the flat articles in a product flow, and a separator adapted to divide the product flow into at least two partial flows. The separator comprises a plurality of containers arranged in a row. The containers are adapted to accommodate flat articles. The containers move substantially transverse to the product flow and substantially parallel to the product flow to form the partial flows.
Abstract:
In a signature-stacking apparatus, a conveyor chain holding a row of signatures travels along a conveyance path. A first signature release section and a second signature release section are provided in the conveyance path. During travel from the first signature release section to the second signature release section, the conveyor chain is twisted by 180 degrees about the direction of travel and makes a 180-degree turn about an axis parallel to a connection pin of the conveyor chain. Signatures released from the first and second signature release sections are conveyed to first and second signature delivery sections disposed on opposite sides of a stacking section by first and second conveyor mechanisms while their speed of conveyance is being adjusted. A predetermined number of signatures are delivered, while being led by their creases, into the stacking section from the first and second signature delivery sections alternately.
Abstract:
A control method of the parts constituting the chain conveyors used in presses, which allows carrying out measurements on them while the conveyors are operating, with no physical contact with said parts, and whose accuracy is independent of the conveyor speed, which method consists of counting the pulses from a clock signal during the time the element to be measured is passing.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a device for inserting a continuous tape. A system comprises a first module (60) and a second module (62). Two traction means (66, 68) can be connected to one another on the intersection (64) and can be detached again. A gripper device (78) transports a continuous tape from the input section (70) of the first module (60) to the output section (72) of the second module (62) when the traction means (66, 68) are connected. The invention also relates to a combined monitoring device.
Abstract:
An apparatus for transporting a sheet material through a sheet-processing machine is described. The transport system for the sheet material has a drive that is driven independently of the cylinders on the stations processing the sheet material in the sheet-processing machine. The transport system provides at least synchronization of a transport device conveying the sheet material and of the cylinders.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus are provided for high speed manufacture of swatch bearing sheets wherein each sheet is directed through various operating stations via a single set of sheet engaging members. Individual sheets are removed from a stack of sheets at a feeding station. The sheets are aligned into a predetermined position for feeding to the sheet engaging members. A single set of sheet engaging members directs each sheet through an adhesive applying station where glue spots are placed on the sheets at predetermined locations. Each sheet is then advanced by the same set of sheet engaging members through one or more swatch applying stations where swatches are applied to the glue spots on the sheets. The sheets are then discharged from direction via the sheet engaging members at a disengaging station. The sheets are then fed through a pressing station to firmly adhere the swatches to the glue spots on the sheets.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus is provided for processing printed products such as newspapers, magazines or parts thereof in which the printed products are transported by controllable grippers of a conveying device wherein the printed product is held at a first edge which runs transversely to the conveying direction. The printed products are conveyed at a set conveying speed. The grippers are at least partially opened to displace the printed products in the mouth of the grippers. The printed products are then displaced in the mouth of the grippers until the second edge (which is opposite the first edge) is brought to rest on a straightening mechanism. The straightening mechanism is driven substantially in the conveying direction. The grippers are then closed to continue transporting the printed products. If the second edge of the printed products leads relative to the first edge, the straightening mechanism is driven at a lower speed than the conveying speed. If the second edge trails relative to the first edge, the straightening mechanism are driven at a higher speed than the conveying speed. Thus, the printed products are thrust towards the interior of the mouth of the grippers by the straightening mechanism before the grippers are closed.
Abstract:
An apparatus is described for releasably gripping a sheet and advancing the sheet through a transfer zone and into registration with information developed on a moving member. The apparatus includes a first gripping member and a second gripping member adapted to be moved relative to the first gripping member. The apparatus further includes a mechanism for applying a force on the second gripping member to urge the second gripping member towards the first gripping member to grip the sheet. Moreover, the apparatus includes a mechanism for advancing the first gripping member and the second gripping member through the transfer zone. The apparatus additionally includes a mechanism for moving the second gripping member relative to the first gripping member to acquire or release the sheet. The apparatus further includes a mechanism for positioning the moving mechanism in a first mode of operation to allow the moving mechanism to move the second gripping member, and, in a second mode of operation to prevent the moving mechanism from moving the second gripping member. The printing machine still further includes a mechanism for isolating the positioning mechanism from the force applied by the force applying mechanism during the first mode of operation.
Abstract:
A gripper bar fitted on drive chains and destined to grip and carry plate shaped sheets of material through printing, cutting and similar machines to produce a package characterized by the bar including a hollow profile on which the grippers are fastened. Every gripper consists of a flat spring attached at one end to a leading edge wall of the bar and having the other free end taking a rest position engaging a gripper counterpart which is situated on the trailing edge of the bar. The flat spring has a length greater than the width of the bar and passes through the bar before reappearing through a window on the trailing edge of the bar.
