    Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for operating a radio access network (RAN) node of a wireless communication network. The method comprises: receiving a connection resume request message from a wireless terminal at the RAN node instructing the RAN node to establish a connection with the wireless terminal; providing release information for the wireless terminal at the RAN node; determining a state of a reachability request parameter at the RAN node; receiving uplink data from the wireless terminal at the RAN node, wherein the uplink data is associated with the connection resume request message; and transmitting a connection release message to the wireless terminal after receiving the uplink data responsive to the release information for the wireless terminal and determining the state of a reachability request parameter at the RAN node, wherein responsive to the state of the reachability request parameter at the RAN node having a first state, instructing the RAN node to not immediately transmit a connection release message to release and/or suspend the connection with the wireless terminal.

    Abstract: Methods supporting a Quality of Service (QoS) update during a Handover (HO) procedure are disclosed herein. More specifically, methods performed by a Radio Access Network (RAN) node and a Core Network (CN) node for supporting a QoS update during an HO are provided. The methods disclosed herein can facilitate flexible New Generation (NG)-RAN (NG-RAN) deployment with a mixture of NG-RAN nodes capable or incapable of supporting additional parameters in an HO procedure. The methods also make it possible to provide smooth NG-RAN software updates between different software releases.

    Abstract: A method to operate a Network Function, Repository Function, NRF, to manage NF profiles of Session Management Functions (SMFs) in a communication system is provided that is configured to communicate with other network functions of the communications system through a network interface. The NRF receives NF profiles for the SMFs, wherein at least some of the NF profiles each include both a SMF identifier and a service area information for a respective one of the SMFs. After receiving the NF profiles, the NRF stores the SMF identifiers and the service area information of the NF profiles in a repository in memory. The NRF may also receive a NF discovery request for discovering SMFs. After receiving the NF discovery request, the NRF may retrieve from the repository at least one of the NF profiles respectively for at least one SMF based on content of the NF discovery request. The NRF communicates a NF discovery response containing the SMF identifier and the service area information of the at least one SMF.
