    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. The described techniques enable a first wireless device (e.g., an integrated access and backhaul (IAB) node in an IAB system) or a network entity (e.g., a centralized unit (CU) in the IAB system) to select a set of wireless devices for communication. The first wireless device, the CU, or both may select the set of wireless devices for communication based on a pathloss mode of the first wireless device, whether an angular separation between a group of nodes (e.g., one or more of the set of wireless devices) is less than an angular separation threshold, or both. The first wireless device may communicate with the set of wireless devices with one or more communications beams. For example, the device may communicate with multiple wireless devices using a single communication beam if the angular separation between the multiple devices is relatively low.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. To communicate messages using one or more grating lobes of a directional beam, a first device (e.g., a user equipment (UE), a base station) may transmit, to a second device, control signaling that indicates the transmission of a message on a grating lobe. The first device may determine a set of beamforming parameters for simultaneously transmitting the message to the second device and a third device. The first device may simultaneously transmit the message to third device on a main lobe and to the second device on the grating lobe. Additionally, or alternatively, the first device may simultaneously receive a message on a main lobe and a grating lobe of a directional beam. The first device may also communicate control signaling that indicates whether to simultaneously communicate the message on the main lobe and the grating lobe.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. The described techniques may enable a first wireless device (e.g., a parent node) to transmit a control message to a second wireless device (e.g., a child node). The control message may include a resource reservation for communication with the second wireless device. The second wireless device may receive the control message and may transmit an acknowledgment message acknowledging successful reception of the resource reservation. The first wireless device may monitor for the acknowledgment message and may communicate with the second wireless device based on whether the acknowledgment message is received. For example, if the first wireless device receives feedback acknowledging successful reception of the resource reservation at the second wireless device, the devices may communicate data in the reserved resources. Otherwise, the first wireless device may retransmit a control message if the first control message was not successfully received.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A first base station may receive, from a plurality of user equipments (UEs), a plurality of uplink signals that include feedback information for the plurality of UEs. A first UE of the plurality of UEs may be associated with the first base station and a second UE of the plurality of UEs may be associated with a second base station. The first base station may modify a plurality of sets of beam weights for a plurality of downlink signals, where each modified set of beam weights corresponds to a respective downlink signal of the plurality of downlink signals. The first base station may transmit, to the first UE, a first downlink signal of the plurality of downlink signals using a first modified set of beam weights of the of the plurality of sets of beam weights.

    Abstract: The position of a mobile device is estimated using angle based positioning measurements. The angle based positioning measurements are generated using transmit (Tx) beams or receive (Rx) beams from one or more base stations that generate the beams over an ultra-wide bandwidth, which produces frequency and spatial distortions and impairments in an array gain response. The array gain distribution variation as a function of angle and frequency for the set of beam weights used in beamforming is conveyed to indicate the frequency and spatial distortions. The array gain distribution variation may be provided to the mobile device in assistance data for a sub-band that is only a portion of the allocated bandwidth for the base stations, or as an aggregation of the array gain distribution variation for a plurality of sub-bands of the allocated bandwidth to reduce the overhead in signaling.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. To support communications across a wideband, a base station and user equipment (UE) may communicate across the wideband using a set of sub-bands that span the carrier bandwidth (e.g., the wideband). In some cases, the UE may transmit, to the base station, an indication of a capability of the UE to communicate a wideband communication with the base station via the set of sub-band based communications with the base station. The UE may receive, from the base station (and, in some cases based on the capability of the UE), a configuration for communicating with the base station in the carrier bandwidth using the set of sub-bands. Then, the UE may communicate with the base station in the carrier bandwidth using one or more of the set of sub-bands in accordance with the configuration.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. To support a reliable array response for wideband communications, a base station may configure a set of transmission instances for a set of signals distributed across a wideband carrier bandwidth. At least one transmission instance of the set of transmission instances may be configured in each sub-band of the carrier bandwidth. The base station may transmit the set of signals in the configured transmission instances to a user equipment (UE). The UE may receive the set of signals distributed across the carrier bandwidth and may measure, for the signals, a set of signal measurements corresponding to the set of sub-bands. Based on the signal measurements, the UE may determine a set of communication beams for the set of sub-bands. Using one or more of the determined communication beams, the UE may communicate with the base station in the carrier bandwidth.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may be configured with a set of beamforming weights, each beamforming weight corresponding to a transmit beam of a set of transmit beams that may each include a same primary lobe and one or more different side lobes. The UE may then perform a beam training procedure to determine which transmit beams cause more or less interference at one or more nearby UEs. The UE may transmit signals using one or more of the transmit beams, and the nearby UEs may determine which transmit beams and corresponding beamforming weights cause more or less interference. The nearby UEs may then indicate those transmit beams or beamforming weights that cause more or less interference via different options.
