Abstract: Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a base station associated with a cell of a time division duplex communication system may determine a guard interval that is less than a maximum time delay, based at least in part on a radius of the cell, for air-to-ground communications; and transmit a scheduling configuration to a user equipment that identifies the guard interval. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some cases, a user equipment (UE) may In support multiple component carriers that may be used to transmit uplink transmissions. One carrier may be used at a time such that the may switch between the carriers based on an uplink transmission schedule. In some cases, switching may be limited by a consecutive uplink switching rule or UE capability. In some cases, the gap between two consecutive uplink carrier switching operations may be limited to a resource (e.g., slot, symbol), such that the UE may expect to perform at most one switching operation per resource. In some implementations, the gap between two consecutive uplink carrier switching operations may be limited to a duration (e. g., 14 symbols, 4 symbols), such that the UE may expect to perform at most one switching operation per a duration less than or equal to a threshold.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for supporting multiple types of random access occasions. A method that may be performed by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving, from a base station (BS), an indication of at least two types of random access occasions (ROs) including a first RO type and a second RO type for communicating in a first coverage area of the BS as part of a random access process for the UE to establish a connection with the BS in the first coverage area. The method further includes transmitting, to the BS, a preamble on an RO of one of the first RO type or the second RO type, wherein a preamble format of the preamble is based on whether the RO is of the first RO type or the second RO type.

Abstract: Aspects are provided to support payloads for msgA transmission in a two-step random access (RACH) procedure by providing a one-to-many mapping arrangement between preambles and physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) resource units (PRUs). A preamble is determined by the UE which is mapped to one or more groups of PRUs to support piggybacking of uplink control information (UCI), frequency hopping on PUSCH, and multiple-slot repetition for msgA transmissions. By piggybacking UCI to a payload in msgA, flexibility may be provided in the selection of MCS and waveform as well as resource allocation for demodulation reference signals (DMRS) and PUSCH in PRUs. Moreover, by allowing a payload to hop to different frequencies on PUSCH during the transmission of msgA, a gain in frequency diversity and interference averaging may be provided, and by enabling a payload to repeat across multiple slots in msgA transmission, coverage enhancement and/or reliability may be increased.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may determine a configuration of a retransmission of a first message of a random access procedure based on a set of transmission configuration options transmitted by a base station. For example, the UE may transmit the first message but may reconfigure the first message for the retransmission based on the transmission configuration options. Additionally, the UE may configure a set of transmission configuration states based on the transmission configuration options for transmitting/retransmitting the first message. In some cases, the UE may determine to switch transmission configuration states based on a trigger signaled by the base station and/or a determination by the UE. Additionally, the UE may transmit an indication of a log of state transitions performed prior to a retransmission of the first message to facilitate combining of the retransmissions at the base station.

Abstract: A base station (BS) may determine (estimate) a preparation time for at least one uplink (UL) transmission by a user equipment (UE) on at least one radio frequency (RF) carrier. The BS may use the preparation time to ensure that the BS sends a grant for the at least one transmission to the UE a sufficient amount of time before the at least one transmission is scheduled to occur to give the UE sufficient time to conduct the at least one UL transmission. In some examples, the BS determines the preparation time based on adjusting an uplink preparation time according to a defined value. In some examples, the BS determines the preparation time based on a subcarrier spacing (SCS) index. The BS may select the SCS index used to determine the preparation time from smallest of the SCS indexes configured for the different RF carriers.

Abstract: A low complexity user equipment (UE) may be in communication with another UE (e.g., with a premium UE or more capable UE) via a device-to-device communication link (e.g., via sidelink), and the low complexity UE may leverage the device-to-device link to improve (e.g., simplify, expedite, etc.) random access procedures performed by the low complexity UE. For example, a low complexity UE may request contention free random access (CFRA) resources via the device-to-device link with another UE. Another device (e.g., another UE in device-to-device communication with the low complexity UE) may receive the request from the low complexity UE and forward the request to the network (e.g., to a base station). The network may then configure CFRA resources for the low complexity UE. Upon receiving the CFRA configuration, the low complexity UE may perform a random access procedure (e.g., a CFRA procedure) with the network (e.g., with the base station) accordingly.
