    Abstract: A display panel includes an array of pixels extending in a plane and arranged in rows, wherein a first plurality of the rows extend to an edge of the pixel array and one or more rows at a corner of the pixel array are recessed from the edge. The display panel includes driver circuits each connected to a corresponding row of the pixel array and occupying an area in the plane, the area having a long dimension and an orthogonal short dimension. A first set of driver circuits are connected to corresponding rows of the first plurality of rows and a second set of driver circuits are connected to corresponding rows at the corner of the pixel array. The long dimension of each of the drivers of the first set of drivers is greater than the long dimension of each of the drivers of the second set of drivers.

    Abstract: A display device includes a plurality of subpixel emissive areas of a first color, a second color, and a third color arranged in an array having a plurality of rows and columns. Rows of the array include subpixel emissive areas arranged in a repeating pattern of a first color subpixel emissive area, a second color subpixel emissive area, a third color subpixel emissive area, and a second color subpixel emissive area. Alternating columns of the array include subpixel emissive areas: (a) arranged in a repeating pattern of a subpixel emissive area of the first color and a subpixel emissive areas of the third color, and (b) including only subpixel emissive areas of the second color. The display device further includes a plurality of scan lines, a plurality of column lines, and a plurality of electronic subpixel circuits arranged in the array. Each electronic subpixel circuit is configured for receiving electronical signals from a scan line and from a column line and for converting the received signals into a current signal provided to one of the subpixel emissive areas to drive light emission from the subpixel emissive area, where electronic subpixel circuits arranged in a column of the array drive columns of emissive areas having only one color.

    Abstract: An apparatus includes a display panel having a first pixel area having a first pixel density and a second pixel area having a second pixel density higher than the first, the panel configured to generate images viewable from a front side and a sensor positioned at the back side arranged to receive incident light transmitted from the front to the back through the first pixel area. The first pixel area has light emitting pixels and signal lines electrically connecting pixel circuits associated with the pixels, and the panel includes a layer having a light blocking material patterned to provide apertures to transmit the incident light between some of the light emitting pixels and the signal lines and to block the incident light from the pixel circuits and the signal lines. Apertures can have different dimensions.

    Abstract: An apparatus is described that includes a display panel and a sensor. The display panel includes an array of pixels configured to direct light through a front side of the display panel. Each pixel includes sub-pixels, each of which includes an organic light emitting diode (OLED) and an integrated circuit (IC) for controlling an electrical current to the OLED. The sensor is arranged at a back side of the display panel. The sensor includes an emitter configured to emit electromagnetic radiation transmitted through a first area of the display panel. The IC of sub-pixels of the array of pixels outside the first area includes a first IC arrangement. The IC of sub-pixels of the array of pixels within the first area includes a transistor in addition to the first IC arrangement.     Abstract: This document describes systems and techniques for dynamic control of scan signals in active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) displays. Displays in portable electronic devices, such as smartphones, include tens of thousands of pixels. Scan signals in the display control the brightness and color of individual pixels. A leading source of power consumption in AMOLED displays, however, is the parasitic capacitance in the scan lines that carry the scan signals. As the frame rate of AMOLED displays has increased, the frequency of scan signals and the associated parasitic capacitance has also increased. The described AMOLED display can dynamically control the number of pulses in scan signals to reduce power consumption without degrading image quality.

    Abstract: Techniques and apparatuses are described that implement a trace design to reduce bezel area (106). An apparatus includes a pixel array (302) comprising pixel rows (112). The apparatus also includes a row line-driver (110-1) configured to provide electrical signals to at least two of the pixel rows (112-1, 112-2). The apparatus further comprises a plurality of electrical traces (202) that connect the row line-driver (110-1) to the pixel rows. At least one of the electrical traces (202) comprises a branch (210) such that a signal carried by the at least one of the electrical traces (202) enters the at least two of the pixel rows (112-1, 112-2). The branch is disposed closer to the row line-driver (110-1) than the pixel rows (112-1, 112-2). In this way, a number of the electrical traces (202) crossing a bezel area (106) is reduced compared to branching near the row line-driver (110-1).

    Abstract: A display configuration to facilitate imaging through the display is disclosed. The imaging can be achieved by positioning a camera behind a transmit/receive area (120,122) of a display. The transmit/receive area is configured to reduce the interaction between the light propagating through the display and circuit elements of the display.
