Abstract: A first image is rendered on an active area of an OLED display panel with a first refresh rate that is below a threshold refresh rate and, subsequent to rendering the first image with the first refresh rate, a second image that is different from the first image is rendered on the active area, where the rendering of the second image includes rendering a number of initial frames of the second image at a second refresh rate that is at or above the threshold refresh rate. After rendering the number of initial frames of the second image at the second refresh rate, additional frames of the second image on the active area are rendered with the first refresh rate, where the number of initial frames is greater than 1.

Abstract: This document describes systems and directed at rejecting display leakage light in under-display sensors. In aspects, an ambient light sensor of an electronic device rejects leakage light originating from pixels in a display using a look-up table and an ambient light calculating formula. In implementations, the look-up table is developed based on a variety of operating conditions that the electronic device may experience, including variable refresh rates and display luminosities. The look-up table includes pre-calculated values of a leakage light ratio, for given operating conditions, that can be used to reject leakage light originating from displays by computing the ambient light calculating formula.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for displaying an image on a flat panel display with an array of pixels. A method includes receiving image data including a grayscale value for each pixel; determining a grayscale delta for each pixel where the grayscale delta is a variation between the grayscale value for a given pixel addressable by a first scan line and the grayscale value for another pixel addressable by a scan line addressed prior to the first scan line; determining an aggregated grayscale delta for the first scan line; comparing a magnitude of the aggregated grayscale delta to a threshold value corresponding to a data signal that results in line crosstalk; modifying the image data when the magnitude of the aggregated grayscale delta equals or exceeds the threshold value, and displaying the image on the flat panel display using the modified image data.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for driving a display with an array of light-emitting pixels. The pixels are arranged in a plurality of rows. The array includes two or more independently drivable areas. Each area includes two or more adjacent rows. The method includes, during an image frame, while operating in a first mode of operation, activating a first shift register circuit addressing only rows of pixels in a first area of the independently drivable areas. Activating the first register circuit illuminates one or more pixels in the first area. The method also includes, during the image frame, while operating in the first mode of operation, deactivating a second shift register circuit addressing only rows of pixels in a second area of the independently drivable areas. Deactivating the second register circuit maintains every pixel in the second area unilluminated during the image frame.

Abstract: This document describes systems and techniques directed at minimizing display flickering during biometric authentication. In aspects, an electronic device having a display panel and a biometric authentication system, such as an under-display fingerprint sensor (UDFPS), includes a display manager configured to implement a localized high-luminance region on the display panel during biometric authentication. The display manager may be further configured to implement a standby state at one or more intervals during the biometric authentication, so as to reduce a number of signal modulations which may otherwise be perceived as a display flickering. In so doing, the display manager selectively entering a standby state during a biometric authentication can minimize display flickering, affording a better user experience.
